Yelena Babich of Pipe Creek, TX, passed away on August 17, 2023 at the age of 58, in San Antonio, TX. She was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. Her battle with breast cancer in recent years showed her courage in facing life's challenges with a smile. Many family and friends did not even know she was sick. Despite the pain, she stayed strong until the end. Yelena Babich is preceded in death by her father Vasily Shevchuk.
She was born in Nakhodka, Russia to Vasiliy Shevchuk and Olga Shevchuk on May 19, 1965. She was the youngest of 7 children. She attended school #16 in Nakhodka, Russia. As a child she was tiny but mighty, a free spirit, very athletic, a great student, and a talented artist. In fact, Yelena’s talents were many. She married her love Timofey Babich on July 7, 1984 in Nakhodka, Russia. They loved one another deeply, and lived 38 happy years together, always supporting one another and making many incredible memories together. Yelena always enjoyed a good adventure. God blessed them with 3 children: Olya, Nadia, and Tim Jr. Yelena and Timofey immigrated to the United States in 1989 where they made their home in Woodburn, OR. In 2001, Yelena and Tim along with their three children moved to Idaho. In 2015, they made their way back to Oregon. In January 2023, Yelena made her final move to Pipe Creek, TX to be closer to her son, daughter in law, granddaughter, and church. She created the most beautiful gardens wherever she lived and passed on this love to her daughters.
She enjoyed spending time with her husband and family, dearly loved and adored her granddaughter Sarah, and was eagerly awaiting a grandson due in December. She had a fiery spirit that served to strengthen everyone she met. She supported rehab centers and missionaries, and was hospitable to any visitors that would stop by. She was fearless and independent, yet sensitive and incredibly compassionate.
The care Yelena received from her beloved husband during the final weeks of her life was a tremendous source of joy, peace, and comfort to her. While her family is deeply saddened by her sudden death, we are at peace knowing her suffering has ended and she is with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a memorial service held at 6:00 pm on August 25, 2023 at God Will Provide Church, 28703 Frontage Rd, Boerne, TX 78006. Burial will take place at her daughter Olya and son in law Jon’s property in Colton, OR. Date, time, and address will be announced soon.
