Winfred 'Spike' Harner, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, in Kerrville. He was born on April 13, 1930, in Red Knob, West Virginia, to Fred and Belva Hopkins Harner. He married Jean Marie Helmick in Flint, Michigan more than 40 years ago, was an active choir member, retired Postal Carrier of 36 years and served in the Air Force during the Korean War. \r\n \r\nHe is survived by his wife, Jean Harner of Kerrville; daughters, Sherilyn Lorkowski of New Hampshire, Kathy Quigley of Michigan, and Laural Salazar of San Antonio; sons, Jerry Harner of Michigan, David Stevens of Colorado, and Thomas Stevens of Wisconsin; younger sister, Jane Shoemaker of Michigan; elder brother, Bruce Harner of Florida; 12 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. \r\n\r\nHe was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Harner. \r\n \r\nA memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at 12 PM at First United Methodist Church in Kerrville.\r\n
