William Wesley Vann, age 89 of Kerrville, passed away Sunday, September 13, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 7, 1925 in Trinity, Texas to John Benjamin and Therie Josserand Vann.\r\n \r\nHe graduated from Trinity High School in 1943. In October 1943, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served in that organization through World War II until June 1946.\r\n \r\nHe graduated from the University of Houston with a B.A. in accounting in early 1951. He was also a Life Member of Phi Kappa Phi. Upon graduation, he joined the public accounting firm of Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. with whom he was employed until October 1952. At that time, he joined Anderson Clayton & Co. with whom he was employed for thirty five years and retired as Chief Financial Officer at the time the company was sold in 1986. He then joined the McAshan Interest as Executive Director and served until 2002.\r\n \r\nHe served as President and Treasurer of the Houston Arboretum and Botanical Society for a number of years. He worked as an Associate to the Treasury of The United Way in Houston. He was past President of Houston Chapter of National Association of Accountants. He was a long time member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Houston.\r\n \r\nHe was married to his high school sweetheart, Marie Hutson, from October 1944 until she passed away in 1989. He was also preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John Edwin Vann.\r\n \r\nHe had been married to the wonderful Susan Farnsworth Taylor since September 2000. He is survived by his devoted wife, Susan; daughter, Lizanne Caroline Broome and her husband, James Broome of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; son, William Clay Vann of Nashville, Tennessee; granddaughter, Caroline Marie Frye of Washington, D.C. and husband, Charles Frye; grandson, Stephen Vann of Rockford, Illinois; sister-in-law, Lucie Constant Masterson and Neill Masterson of Hunt, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.\r\n \r\nSpecial thanks to Vernon Brown for his loyal devotion to "Bill" and to our family, and to Alamo Hospice, Tri County Alternate Care, and RN Reba Davis, who cared for "Bill" through his illness. \r\n \r\nContributions may be made to the Boys and Girls Harbor, La Porte, Texas; M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas; or to the charity of choice.\r\n \r\nA memorial service will be held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church at 2 PM, Thursday, September 17, 2015 with the Rev. Stockton Williams and the Rev. Tom Murray officiating.\r\n
