Lt. Col. William C. "Bill" Letzkus USAF (Retired), age 79, of Kerrville, TX, passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2015, in a San Antonio Hospital. He was born on November 14, 1935 in Peoria, Illinois to Clifford and Lulu Nack Letzkus. On June 11, 1961, he married Carole Plog in Wausa, Nebraska.\r\n\r\nBill was Valedictorian of his High School class in Fremont, Nebraska. He attended Grinnell College where he was Phi Beta Kappa, and received his Masters from the University of Nebraska. Bill served his country in the Air Force, retiring from active duty in 1980. While in the Air Force he attended the University of Texas, where he received his Doctorate Degree. After the Air Force he began his career as a college professor at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville until his retirement in 1997. Bill and Carole bought a recreational vehicle and traveled the country, settling in Kerrville in 2001. He was the love of Carole's life, and they were married over 53 years. Bill loved hiking, the outdoors, and nature. He was also a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Kerrville. \r\n\r\nHe is survived by his loving wife, Carole Letzkus of Kerrville; daughter, Heidi Fairman and husband Brent of Dallas; sister, Martha Lakin of Normal, Illinois; granddaughters, Madison Fairman and Kennedy Fairman; niece Sue Anderson, nephew David Lakin, and many friends.\r\n\r\nA memorial service will be held at a later date. \r\n\r\nIn lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Bill's name to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America http://www.alzfdn.org/ContributetoAFA/makeadonation.html, and/or the Salvation Army http://donate.salvationarmyusa.org/ \r\n \r\n[contact-form-7 id="73" title="Send Condolences"]
