He was born in St. Louis, Missouri October 23, 1928 to Marie Glunz Kalbfleisch and William Henry Kalbfleisch.\r\n\r\nDuring his growing up years, Bill was active in the Boy Scouts and enjoyed summer camp each summer in Irondale, Missouri. He was a member of Webster Groves Baptist Church. Bill was a proud member of the "knot hole gang" in St. Louis watching the St. Louis Cardinals play baseball in Busch Stadium.\r\n\r\nIn the summer of his 18th year, while in high school, he "rode the rails" from St. Louis to Oregon and worked with the US Forestry Service in the John Day National Forest as a mountain fire lookout.\r\n\r\nAfter graduating from high school in 1952, he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Japan during the rebuilding of that country. Using the GI Bill, he then enrolled at the University of Missouri School of Business earning a marketing degree. He then served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army on the front lines of battle during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, he returned to the University of Missouri and enrolled in the Master of Business degree curriculum.\r\n\r\nOn June 9, 1957, he married the flower of his life, Mary Carolyn McKinney. Their three very wonderful children are Mark, Brett, and Erika. Their 9 grandchildren are Ruthanna Rose, Noah, Havilah, Josiah, Elijah and Daniel Pierce Kalbfleisch and Brooke, Braden and Blaine Gaffney. Their daughters-in-law are Karen Kalbfleisch, Christina Kalbfleisch, with sons, Justyn and Jacob and son-in-law, David Gaffney.\r\n\r\nBill was preceded in death by his parents and brother, George Griffith Kalbfleisch.\r\n\r\nBill owned a construction company in Corpus Christi, Texas, building at first small single family homes, then duplexes, four-plexes, apartments, custom homes and commercial buildings.\r\n\r\nIn 1978, Bill and Mary retired to Kerrville to build their "home in the woods" and proceeded to travel in many foreign countries and throughout the beautiful United States. Their greatest joy was spending time with their families, watching the grandchildren grow and traveling with them to destinations of the children's choice.\r\n\r\nBill was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, accepting Jesus Christ as His Savior and was blessed by daily evening Bible study and Scripture reading with his wife, Mary.\r\n\r\nPrivate military services for Bill Kalbfleisch will be held at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas.
