William Hale

March 22, 1942 — April 27, 2017

George Hale was a funny, spontaneous, and charming Texas gentleman who loved his wife, his dogs, his garden, his friends, and his life.\r\n \r\nWilliam "George" Hale was born in East Bernard, Texas, the only child of Martin Hale and Alice Mae Thomas Hale. He spent his early years in Eagle Lake, Texas, his mother's hometown, where his father was the high school band director. After a short stint in McCamey, the family settled in Mason, Texas. Martin was the Band Director, Alice Mae was everyone's friend, and George excelled in academics, band, and football. After high school graduation, George went to SMU on a music scholarship and played trumpet in the Mustang Band. He graduated with a degree in engineering, after spending summer internships in Huntsville, Alabama in the Space Program.\r\n \r\nGeorge had an affinity for computers, which became his life-long profession. He spent time with Texas Instruments and Requisition Equipment, Inc. before starting his own company, The Hale Group. George holds a shared patent for the mail sorting equipment and spent six months in New York City during the installation. During his time in Dallas, George developed a passion for fine art photography. He and a group of friends traveled throughout Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, and Wyoming taking black and white photographs. One of George's shots was chosen for inclusion in a book of fine art photography. George also continued his love of music, playing guitar in a jazz band.\r\n \r\nAfter his mother's death, George moved to Kerrville to help his father, and was able to bring his work and clients with him, and work out of his home. In 1991, a mutual friend introduced George to Robin, who had also returned to the hill country to care for her mother. George and Robin had found each other, and they married the following year.\r\n \r\nGeorge loved caring for his home; he and Robin spent many hours working together in the yard and feeling blessed to live in the beautiful hill country. George always had a dog in his lap or by his side; perhaps his most beloved dog was a little, wiry, fellow named, Gus. George sang and played his trumpet in the church choir and shared his warm and witty disposition with everyone he met. He was a life-long learner, always finding interest in history, religion, politics, and travel. He and Robin traveled near and far together, especially enjoying camping in nature's beauty that George so loved.\r\n \r\nGeorge is survived by his wife, Robin Hale, an aunt, Elfe Thomas, brother-in-law, Hollis Flach, many cousins, a niece and two nephews, and many wonderful friends. \r\n \r\nThere will be a memorial service celebrating George's life at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at St. Boniface Episcopal Church in Comfort, Texas. \r\n \r\nMemorial donations may be made to St. Boniface Episcopal Church, the Mason High School Band, Peterson Hospice, Kathleen Callioux Humane Society, or to the charity of your choice.\r\n
