Westly Roberts

Westly Scott Roberts was called home peacefully on September 1, 2015 in Kerrville, Texas. He was born at Tinker AFB, Midwest City, Oklahoma to Robert H. Roberts and Beverly S. Roberts on May 21, 1958. He was united in marriage with Lynn Ann Thompson on May 5, 2000 in Lemoore, California.\r\n \r\nAs an USAF dependent, he attended Bitburg American High School, Bitburg, Germany and Cordova High School, Rancho Cordova, California. He graduated in 1976 from Cordova High School. Afterwards he joined the U. S. Navy and was stationed at NAS, Lemoore, California, working at AIMD as an Aviation Structural Mechanic and later as NAS Lemoore Base Security. Following his discharge from the military, at the age of 22, he attended the police academy and was then employed by the City of Lemoore Police Department. He over time was promoted as Sergeant and also filled temporary rolls as Administrative Sergeant and Commander for the Department. He had also served as a member of the Lemoore Volunteer Fire Department. In August of 2010, he retired after 30 years of dedicated service and relocated with his family to Fort Davis, Texas. While in residency there, he assisted the Fort Davis Volunteer Fire Department in battling one of the largest fires in West Texas history, named the Rock House Fire. Upon relocation to Kerrville, Texas, he applied to the City of Kerrville Police Department where he began again as a new man on the force in October 2012. In June 2014, he applied and was employed by the Veterans Administration working for the Kerrville VA Medical Center as a Federal Police Officer. He is a retired veteran and served in both Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom under 649th MP Co, U. S. Army/California National Guard San Luis Obispo/Fresno, California. During Iraqi Freedom he was directly involved in training the new Iraqi Police Officers. He was awarded Army Achievement medals for Military Merit, Anti-Terrorism Defense and Military Achievement during his years where he served in the Panama Canal, L. A. Riots, Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom, also being awarded the Army Achievement Medal with Valor for "courage under fire" during his service in Iraqi Freedom. \r\n \r\nWestly enjoyed Boy Scouts, coaching youth basketball, and collecting baseball cards with his sons, cuddling his grandchildren and traveling and trying new foods with his wife. His ears always perked up at the sound of a Harley going by and thoroughly appreciated a good ride. He was a lover of dogs and animals in general, cats not so much but endured living with two of them. Awed at the outdoors and the vastness of the stars. A sci fi fan especially of Star Trek and Star Wars. Sat through countless hours of chick flicks with his wife and loved just being with and being there for his family and friends. \r\n \r\nHe was a man of great honor and integrity which shone through while carrying out his duty, and as a son, brother, friend, husband, and father and through interactions with all peoples. He is greatly loved and will be missed dearly by all who knew him.\r\n \r\nWestly is survived by his wife, Lynn A. Roberts of Kerrville TX, his children, Westly S. Roberts, Jr. and wife Lynette of Dickinson, TX, Phillip A. Roberts and wife Reiko of San Diego, CA, Jacob M. Rainey and wife Melissa of San Diego, CA, Sarah L. M. Rainey of Kerrville, TX, Hannah M. E. Rainey of Kerrville, TX, his brother, David B. Roberts and wife Polly of San Antonio, TX, his sister, Michelle K. Brady and husband Art, his parents, Robert H. Roberts and Beverly S. Roberts of San Antonio, TX, grandchildren, Mason D. Roberts, Larry Conor and Anthony Thomas Fuentes and Madilynn Grace VanZandt with three more grandchildren on the way, nephew, Jimmy S. Roberts, and nieces Melissa G. Roberts, Diane B. Roberts, Amber K. Brady, Beverly A. Brady and aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends. Our gentle, courageous warrior will be guardian angel over all.\r\n \r\nServices will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at Grimes Funeral Chapels, Kerrville, Texas with Reverend Robert (Bob) H. Roberts of Southern Baptist denomination, officiating. Wes has requested his ashes be spread during a private family ceremony at a later time.\r\n \r\nMemorials may be given to the charity of choice.\r\n \r\nThe family of Westly S.
