Wendell Wampler

December 11, 1936 — June 16, 2019

Wendell David Wampler, 82, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2019 at his beloved ranch at Hunt, Kerr County, Texas. Wendell was born in Norman, Oklahoma on December 11, 1936 to Raymond and Hattie Wampler. On August 21, 1960, Wendell married the love of his life, Barbara, and they were married for 57 years until her death on January 4, 2018.\r\n\r\nIn 1969, Wendell and Barbara settled in Austin, Texas, where they raised their three sons. Wendell had a successful career in the insurance business, at one point leading the largest independent general lines insurance agency in Texas. He was recognized internationally as an early innovator in the design and placement of insurance contracts for commercial telecommunications satellites at the dawn of the Information Age. However, Wendell's proudest achievement was his family. He was a wonderful husband to Barbara and a great dad to his sons, David, Jay and Jerry. In 2003, Barbara and Wendell realized their dreams to live on their ranch where they ran cattle, enjoyed nature, developed new friendships, watched grandkids grow up and delighted in hosting friends and family. Wendell's wisdom, warm devotion to family and love are lasting legacies to his family and to all of those who knew him.\r\n\r\nWendell is preceded in death by his wife Barbara, son Jay, sisters Adaline Burleson, Della Hickman and Florence Grissom and brother Raymond Wampler.\r\n\r\nHe is survived by his sons, David and wife Melissa, Jerry and wife Cookie, sister Jeannene Loeffelholz, grandsons, Adam Wampler, Matthew Wampler and Blake Wampler and granddaughter Ava Wampler.\r\n\r\nA private family service is planned.\r\n
