Vernon L. Snipes, 95, of Kerrville, passed away on February 8, 2019. He was born in Oklahoma to Floyd and Chloe Snipes on June 20, 1923. He married the love of his life, Nelda, on September 18, 1943. He was the youngest of three brothers and one sister.\r\n\r\nVernon was raised in the small farming town of Brownfield, Texas where he attended school, played basketball and enjoyed trips to the local swimming hole with his family and friends, Vernon and his wife worked as cotton and chicken farmers for 21 years. Together, they retired to Kerrville, Texas in 1966. Vernon was an Army veteran of World War II (service August 1944 to December 1945) . \r\n\r\nVernon was preceded in death by his wife, Nelda of 70 years; his father, Floyd; mother, Chloe; brothers, Tracy, Buford, and Wilford; his sister, Lola; and informally adopted son, Rusty Salazar. \r\nVernon is survived by numerous nieces and nephews; informally adopted daughter, Peggy Salazar; and her children, Kayo, Gretchen, Garrett, Katelynn and Bricen.\r\n\r\nIn lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Meals on Wheels-Dietert Center, Kerrville, Texas, (830) 896-8117.
