Vern Joseph Blodgett (Bucky) was born in Kewanee, Illinois and came to Kerrville in 1929 at the tender age of 8. During the past 85 years Bucky amassed a collection of friends and memories that rival most "old-timers." His infectiously cheerful nature and seemingly endless ability to tell a good story, and many a joke, propelled him forward daily, even when his legs started slowing down a bit. Bucky was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Coast Guard and spent his career working for Veteran's hospitals across the U.S. He believed a firm handshake and the look in a man's eyes told a lot about them. Bucky passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 in Kerrville, Texas at the age of 93.\r\n\r\nBucky is preceded in death by his wife Catheryn Elizabeth (Betty) Blodgett and is survived by son Randall and his wife Christine, son James and his wife Rosie, son Joseph and his wife Kathy, and son Terry and his wife Kenda, 11 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.\r\n\r\nVisitation will be held on Friday, November 21st from 5pm to 7pm and funeral services will begin at 10 am on Saturday, November 22nd, both at Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville, Texas. Bucky will be laid to rest alongside Betty at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas in a private ceremony.\r\n\r\nThe family wishes to recognize Priscilla Davis who came to Bucky as a caregiver and turned out to be a true angel here on earth that allowed Bucky to laugh, dance, sing, and live life to the fullest.\r\n\r\n[contact-form-7 id="73" title="Send Condolences"]
