Velma Johnson, 72 of Kerrville, passed away on April 17, 2019 in Kerrville. She was born in Kerrville to L.C. Edwards and Elizabeth Kahey on February 15, 1947. She was married to Walter Johnson.\r\n\r\nVelma graduated from Tivy High School and worked for the Kerrville State Hospital for 35 years, retiring in December 1999. She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and Doyle Ex's Association.\r\n\r\nVelma was preceded in death by her parents, L.C. Edwards and Elizabeth Kahey; and one sister, Teresa Compton.\r\n\r\nVelma is survived by her three children, Marcus Johnson (Sabrina) of Belle Chasse, Louisiana, Angela Johnson of Austin and Bridgette Johnson of Kerrville; two brothers, Aubrey Edwards of Austin and Arthur Ray Edwards (Barbara) of Marble Falls; grandchildren, Marques Johnson (Nina) of Kerrville, Ashley Johnson of Austin, Cheree Gary of Austin, Martique Roberts of Fairbanks, Alaska, Tyler Johnson of Kerrville and Shyla Johnson of Kerrville; great-grandchildren, Nazayah Johnson of Austin, Quincy and Yelena Johnson of Kerrville and Maurice A. Johnson Jr. of San Antonio; dear friends, Dorothy Edmonds and Barbara Lewis; and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.\r\n\r\nFuneral Services will be held at 3 PM, Friday, April 26, 2019 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Noah Diggs, officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories North.\r\n\r\nPallbearers will be Roy Murray, D.R. Coleman, Richard Rodriguez, Carlos Robinson, Lupe Arevalo, Augustine Arevalo, Lynn Whiten, and Mario Williams.\r\n\r\nHonorary pallbearers will be Marcus Johnson, Maurice Johnson, Tyler Johnson, Marques Johnson, Don Bradford, Aubrey Edwards, Arthur Ray Edwards and Daryl Coleman.\r\n\r\nMemorials may be given to the American Cancer Society. \r\n\r\nThe family of Velma Johnson wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Matthew Campbell (MD Anderson), Rebecca Barrington, Peterson Home Health Care, Peterson Hospice, Mt. Olive Baptist Church Women's missions and River Hills Health & Rehab.\r\n\r\n
