Thelma Louise Gallant, 98, of Medina, passed away on January 2, 2015 in Medina. She was born in Medina to James C.and Martha Caroline Gallant on March 4, 1916. \r\n\r\nThelma grew up on the Gallant homeplace in Medina. After finishing highschool, she attended Schreiner University and Texas State University, where she received her B.A. and M.A. degrees. Thelma began her teaching career in 1939, and retired from teaching after a total of 49 years, all in Bandera County. 45 years of those were spent teaching in Medina. After her retirement, the Medina school honored Thelma by dedicating and naming a new classroom facility building after her. \r\n\r\nThelma was very active in church and community activities. She was a member of the Medina United Methodist Church and also was a member of Medina Garden Club, Delta Kappa Gamma, Retired Teachers Assoc., Genealogical Society, DAR and the Medina Library Association.\r\n\r\nThelma loved to travel and She took many trips both in the U.S. and abroad. She authored and published several books, including the history of the Medina Methodist Church, which won her a state award.\r\n\r\nThelma loved her church, her family, her students and her community. She was an amazing woman and an inspiration to so many. She will be missed. \r\n\r\nThelma is preceded in death by her parents: James C. and Martha Caroline Gallant, brothers: Archie R. Gallant and James A. Gallant.\r\n\r\nShe is survived by nieces: Pat (Jim) Harvey, Marilyn (Tony) Watson and three generations of great nieces and nephews. \r\n\r\nVisitation, will be, 5:00PM to 7:00PM, Monday, January 5, 2015 at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Bandera.\r\n\r\nFuneral services will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at United Methodist Church in Medina with the Rev. Bill Stegemueller, officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Rest Cemetery.\r\n\r\nPallbearers will be her great nephews, Robert Ashley, Mike Harvey, Brad Harvey, Michael Snyder, Austin Thomas, John Watson, Brad Carter, and Tony Graham.\r\n\r\n[contact-form-7 id="73" title="Send Condolences"]\r\n
