Susan Varner Shaw, 83, of Kerrville, Texas passed away on September 24, 2016 in Kerrville, Texas. She was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Maridean Souter Varner and Leslie Irving Varner on March 10, 1933. She married Floyd Putnam Shaw IV (Putt) on August 30, 1952 at University Park Methodist church in Dallas, Texas.\r\n \r\nSusan attended school in the Highland Park Independent School district of Dallas and graduated from Highland Park High School in 1950. She attended Southern Methodist University where she was an Alpha Delta Pi. It was there she met Putt and began what was to become a sixty-year love affair. As a young woman Susan was an advertising model for Neiman Marcus. She had a long and fulfilling career in early childhood development. She started and ran the preschool for Preston Hills Presbyterian Church in Richardson, Texas. After her retirement from that career Susan embarked upon a 13-year career in demographic research for the U.S Census Bureau. In 2000 Susan retired from her second career when she and Putt moved to Kerrville, Texas. Always an active person, Susan participated in many activities including Boy Scout den mother, Girl Scout cookie drive chairman, garden club, and investment club. She never resisted an opportunity to cook for and entertain friends and family. Everyone knew Susan to be a creative and endearing soul.\r\n \r\nSusan was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Putt and their two children: Robert Shaw of Kyle, Texas, his former wife Cathy, and their child Ian Shaw and his wife Melanie. Daughter Lane Shaw Rouse of Kerrville also survives with her husband Richard, their two children Cara Rouse Gilbreath, husband Jason and Lauren Rouse Prewett and husband Trevor. Susan was blessed with five precious great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her beloved sister Diane Varner Henderson of Waco, Texas, and her family.\r\n \r\nA private family service was held on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 with Dr. Rob Lohmeyer of the First United Presbyterian Church officiating. Susan was laid to rest at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Kerrville.\r\n \r\nMemorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association or the charity of your choice.\r\n \r\nSusan's family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Brookdale Guadalupe River Plaza, and Dr. Don Murrmann for the excellent care our wife and mother received.\r\n
