Stella Merle McGinty Thayer of Kemah, Texas, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2015 in Bandera, Texas. She was born in Navasota, Texas to Richard Baten McGinty and Myrtle Hills McGinty on February 3, 1928. She married Charles Louis Thayer on October 2, 1947 in Alvin, Texas. The couple were married for 28 years.\r\n\r\nShe graduated from Jefferson Davis High School in Houston, Texas. She earned a Masters of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of Houston/Clear Lake. She worked as a fifth grade science and math teacher for Clear Creek ISD and Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District. She taught Special Education classes at Robert E. Lee High School, Horace Mann Middle School and George Washington Carver Elementary while working for Goose Creek CISD. Coming into public education as a second career, she retired from teaching after 20 years of service at age 69. She was a member of Harmony Baptist Church in Navasota. Mrs. Thayer was an avid naturalist and bird watcher.\r\n\r\nMrs. Thayer is preceeded in death by her ex-husband, Charles Louis Thayer. Mrs. Thayer is survived by her only daughter, Tracy D. Thayer of Bandera. \r\n\r\nMemorials may be given in lieu of flowers to the Bandera ISD Education Foundation in honor of Mrs. Thayer's love of children and dedication to public school. Miss Thayer wishes to extend her sincere thanks to Dr. Milton Alvis and his staff for their care and concern for her mother.\r\n\r\nA private family interment will be held at a later date.
