Stanley Lee Walters, 89, of Kerrville, passed away on Tuesday, April 21 at his home. He was born in Sidney, Nebraska to Homer Earl Walters and Elsie Thoms Walters on May 12, 1925. He went to school in San Diego, California and graduated from Balboa University.\r\n \r\nHe was a veteran of WWII and served in the Navy. As a Pharmacist's Mate, or Corpsman, he served with the 1st Marine Division, most notably during the Battle of Peleliu.\r\n \r\nAfter the war, he and his wife, Dorothy Schraer, moved to Houston, Texas where he worked as an accountant for Trunkline Gas Co., later known as Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Co. After retiring, they moved to Kerrville.\r\n \r\nStan is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, and daughters, Kathleen Marie and Bernadette Walters Burgasser.\r\n \r\nStan is survived by his wife of 15 years, Winnie Mackey Walters; son, Steven Lee and wife Deborah; son, John David and wife Teke; grandchildren, Deandra Walters Gabriel and husband Kacey, Brenton Walters and wife Jennifer, Elizabeth, Katherine, and Sara Walters, and Janet Burgasser; great-grandchildren, Kendyll and Kaedyn Gabriel, and Gunnar and Jackson Walters; and several nieces and nephews.\r\n \r\nFamily camping trips were highlights of many summers, and he loved visiting the National Parks of the west. He was an avid card player, and enjoyed board games, casino gambling and the stock market, among many other things. Always a lover of high-tech gadgetry, it was only natural that he joined the "computer revolution," although he was already in his sixties. Even in failing health, his trademark sense of humor never left him.\r\n \r\nVisitation will be 5-7 pm on Monday, April 27 at Grimes Funeral Chapels, 728 Jefferson St., Kerrville.\r\n \r\nFuneral services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, April 28 at First United Methodist Church, 321 Thompson Dr., Kerrville. Pastor Donna Magee will officiate. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery.\r\n \r\nIn lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given to First United Methodist Church.\r\n \r\nFollowing the burial, friends and family are invited to meet at the church for light refreshments.\r\n\r\n[contact-form-7 id="73" title="Send Condolences"]
