Sixta Asbury

August 13, 1915 — January 19, 2019

Sixta as born August 13, 1915…anyone who had the privilege of knowing her was very fortunate indeed.\r\n\r\nShe was the eldest of six daughters Tina,Stella,Juanita, Lucy and Belinda to Pedro and Domitila Casillas. She had three half sisters; Maggie, Goya and Luz. She got her unusual name after one of her uncles. She loved animals, cooking, gardening and people… Her loyalty to family, employers and friends was true and steadfast… She was a woman ahead of her time…. When it came to business, watch out she could dicker and calculate with the best of them. In the man's world of the fifties she held her own!!!\r\n\r\nShe was a true inspiration to many of her nieces who too later went into business for themselves..\r\n\r\nSixta was not necessarily liked by all but was truly loved... she had a side of her you just couldn't help yourself. She was a no nonsense and firm task master. Once she set her mind on something, she would accomplish it at any cost. When approached by one of her younger sisters who needed help with her two young daughters, Sixta unable to have children of her own said yes to helping; but only if she could adopt them. The girls were truly appreciative of their aunts help and love but eventually moved back with their mother in their teens.\r\n\r\nAlthough the loss of the girls left her by herself and sad, she moved forward never being one to look back and dwell.. She sold her business (which by the way to me was the forerunner of 7-Elevens and Sac in Pac that we know today)..who knows, her dream could have been a Bucee's. Then came many years working for the Night Hawk Restaurant as Hostess. She had many friends that filled her void and will always be remembered for her Birthday Parties she would give herself...\r\n\r\nOh!! but there is more…when you die at one hundred and three what do you expect!! She retired from San Antonio and moved to Bandera and then Hutto Texas.. by now she is in her early eighties and opens up a second hand store, still driving and enjoying her life.. By her late nineties things start taking a turn health wise (even though she wouldn't admit it or give up her driving license). Her last days were spent in a nursing home known as "THE RUNNER''…so at even 103 she was determimed to do it her way.. I Love you Aunt Sixta.. rest in Peace.. Diane\r\n\r\nVisitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 26th, 2019 followed by a Celebration of Life service beginning at 1:00 P.M. at Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera, Texas.
