Shirley Gautier

September 22, 1936 — December 26, 2018

Shirley Jean Gautier, 82 years old and a 27 year resident of Kerrville, peacefully passed away on December 26th in Kerrville. Our mother was a loving, faith-filled, generous woman, and we will miss her dearly. Shirley was born in Stonewall, Oklahoma to Elwood and Violet Wainscott on September 22nd, 1936. \r\n\r\nShirley worked as a school teacher and secretary for many years as she raised her children. Throughout her life she always volunteered in multiple civic organizations in virtually every location she lived in as an adult. Shirley felt very strongly about volunteering and giving back to the community. That giving spirit meant there was rarely a stray dog or cat that she didn't feel compelled to pick up and help. This civic dedication was truly evident in Kerrville, where Shirley was an officer in the Kerrville Arts and Cultural Center; a board member of Partners in Ministry; a board member of K'STAR; a member of Stephen Ministries; a Big Sisters volunteer; and a member of Riverhill Country Club. Shirley enjoyed golf, tennis, painting, quilting, sewing, reading, horses, bible study, baking, and spending time with her family. While she and her family moved around east Texas most of her life, Shirley had visited Kerrville once on vacation and always wanted to return. Once the last of her children was grown and gone, she made that dream a reality moving to Kerrville in 1991. Unquestionably Shirley's time in Kerrville has been the happiest years of her life. Shortly after settling in River Hill, Shirley met her loving, devoted husband Tom at a Christmas party in 1992, and they were married a year later. Since then she has enjoyed over 25 years of marriage to this kind gentleman, constant activity in her community, visiting children and grandchildren, and involvement with her church.\r\n\r\nThe family would like to thank all the caregivers and staff at the Villagio Senior Care Center where Shirley lived for the last 2.5 years. In addition, the family thanks Peterson Hospice and its nursing staff, especially Nicol and Dianne, for all of their love and care. \r\n\r\nShirley is survived by her loving and caring husband, Tom Gautier; children, Charles McClain, Harlan Johnson and his wife, Cathy, and Colonel Joseph Moehlmann and his wife, Kimberly; step-children, Julie Gautier and Todd Gautier and his wife, Brigitte; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. \r\n\r\nVisitation will be at 9:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. at Grimes Funeral Chapels at 728 Jefferson in Kerrville on Saturday, December 29th. \r\n\r\nIn lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation made in Shirley's name to any of the organizations she was a part of. \r\n\r\n
