Shirley Ann Cummings, 81, of Kerrville, Texas, passed away on Monday, June 18, 2018 in Kerrville. She was born in Quemado, Texas to Haymon and Flora Everett on March 3, 1937. She married John C. Cummings on April 12, 1957 in Uvalde, Texas.\r\n\r\nShe went to school in Uvalde and Sanderson, Texas. She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. for 40 years starting as a switchboard operator and received many service awards over the years. She was involved in Uvalde Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and was recognized for her many hours served. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Uvalde.\r\n\r\nShirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her grandson, Jared Reece of Kerrville, Texas.\r\n\r\nShirley is survived by her daughters, Phyllis Ann Cook and husband R.G. and Joanie Reece, all of Kerrville, Texas; sister, Louise Fowler and husband Fred of Bonham, Texas; grandchildren, Trey Cook and wife Sara of Austin, Texas, Kayla Cook Brown and husband Justin of Alexandria, Virginia and Nakai Reece of San Antonio, Texas; great-granddaughters, MaKayla Knight of Winters, Texas and Lila Cook of Austin, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.\r\n\r\nVisitation will be 1:00-2:00 pm on Friday, June 22, 2018 with the funeral immediately following at 2:00 pm at Getty Street Church of Christ in Uvalde, Texas with Ray Melton officiating.\r\n\r\nMemorials may be given to Christian Women's Job Corps of Kerr County, 1140 Broadway, Kerrville, Texas 78028; Hill Country Ministries, 1127 E. Main St., Suite 200 of Kerrville, Texas 78028 or Getty Street Church of Christ, 200 South Getty, Uvalde, Texas 78801.\r\n\r\nShirley/Mom/Memaw is remembered for her love of family and friends; bingo; trips with Emma Jean Everett and always ready to go on outings with family and friends; hunting down beanie babies; playing the song La Bamba endlessly for the grandkids; chasing her grandsons with a fly swatter; never missing a Grandparents Day; being an encourager and serving in her quiet way.\r\n\r\nThe family of Shirley Cummings would like to thank the staff and residents at 220 Harper Assisted Living in Kerrville for their devoted care and friendship in the last year.\r\n\r\nThe family also wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff of Peterson Regional Medical Center ICU for their exceptional care.\r\n\r\n
