Long time resident of Bandera County Sara Herzing Porter entered into eternal rest on December 1, 2023, at the age of 80.
Sara Herzing was born in Del Rio, Texas on January 29, 1943, to Elizabeth Nell Swope Herzing and George Murdock Herzing.
In 1955 her family purchased a 50-acre farm and moved to Uvalde, Texas where Sara graduated from high school in 1961. After 2 years of attending Uvalde junior college, Sara transferred to Southwest Texas State where she earned a Bachelors of Science in Education on August 20, 1966. Sara taught in several schools in Devine, Natalia, and Macdona. Sara married Patrick Porter on October 19, 1968, in Devine, Texas. On December 8, 1974, Pat and Sara’s only child, a daughter, named Stephanie, was born in San Antonio, TX. Over the years Sara made many friends and had a positive impact on many people. She was a wonderful artist, cook, and friend. Pat and Sara moved to Bandera county in 2003.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Robert Wayne Herzing.
Sara is survived by her husband of 55 years, Patrick, daughter Stephanie Brown, son-in-law Jeff, and 3 granddaughters Emily, Sierra, and Olivia Brown.
A memorial service will be held at Grimes Bandera Funeral Chapel in Bandera, Texas on January 2, 2024, at 5:00 PM. Sara will be interred at Fort Sam Houston National cemetery on January 3, 2024 at 1:15 PM.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Grimes Bandera Funeral Chapel.
