Ruth Garrett Chism Murphy passed peacefully away May 10, 2015 in Austin. Ruth was born March 17, 1925 to Letha and Mack Garrett of Kerrville. \r\n \r\nShe graduated from Center Point High School and later went to work at Randolph Field Airbase inspecting and inventorying new bombers prior to their transfer overseas during World War II.\r\n \r\nShe married Charles Chism in February 1947, was widowed in 1973, and later married James R. Murphy of Kerrville in 1985.\r\n \r\nRuth was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Charles Chism and James Murphy; brothers, Billie Gene Garrett and Al Vester Garrett; and grandson, Ryan Lynn Buffington.\r\n \r\nShe is survived by her sister, Ima G. Dean; daughter, Janis Keene and her husband Rod; daughter, Mary Buffington and her husband Darrell; grandchildren, Darrell and Lisa Buffington Jr., Bryan Buffington, Charles and Stephanie Keene; great-grandchildren, Winter, Audrey, Chloe, Aiden, Ella, Ava, Savannah and Emma.\r\n \r\nFriends and family are invited to a visitation that is being held at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville from 6 to 8 PM, Thursday, May 14th, to be followed by her funeral on Friday, May 15th, 1 PM at Grimes Funeral Chapels.\r\n \r\nAlso a memorial service will be held Saturday, May 16th at 3 PM for her friends at the Conservatory at Wells Branch in Austin where she resided for the last 6 ½ years.\r\n \r\nWhen she was living in San Marcos, she was employed as a Hall Director at Texas State University and retired after 16 years. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville and was a Board member of the church at the Conservatory after she moved to Austin. Several years ago she also became a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and was an active member of the Martin Wells Chapter located in Round Rock.\r\n \r\nShe was truly a remarkable woman, an avid traveler, loved to dance and socialize and was devoted to family and friends. She was also a Cancer survivor and an inspiration to all who knew her. Friends and family will miss her dearly.\r\n \r\n[contact-form-7 id="73" title="Send Condolences"]
