Roy Ward

March 25, 1941 — July 13, 2015

Roy Lee Ward, beloved husband, friend, brother, and Uncle, passed away Monday, July 13, 2015 due to complications from heart disease. He was 74. His wife Judy stayed with him during the month long hospital stay leading up to his death. \r\n\r\nA celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Kerrville at 11:00 a.m.\r\n\r\nRoy was born in Grayford, Texas to R.H. Ward and Thelma (Broadway) Ward. He was the youngest of their three children. The family moved to Waco, TX when he was a boy, and he grew up attending Waco schools. He received a degree in visual arts from Baylor University where he met and married Betty Shore.\r\n\r\nAfter college, Roy served in the U. S. Navy Special Forces from 1965-1969, completing three tours of duty during the Vietnam War. After the war, Roy received a second degree from the Los Angeles Art Center of Design.\r\n\r\nRoy was a talented artist, and worked for several years as an illustrator for various ad agencies in Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, and Fort Worth. For the last 40 years, he created western art, including oil on canvas works, outdoor murals, and bronzes. His work can be found in Sundance Square in Fort Worth, as well as at various galleries, museums and in private collections across the Southwest. He was honored recently to be named a Legend of Kerr County Fine Art for 2015.\r\n\r\nRoy was a very devout man, and sought to understand God through careful study of the Bible. He felt that to understand the Bible, one needed to understand the Old Testament fully. To this end, he took Hebrew classes at a synagogue in Dallas to learn Hebrew and more about the Jewish faith. For the last 20 years, Roy shared his considerable knowledge of the Bible with members of his Bible Study class at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Kerrville, Texas.\r\n\r\nIn January of 2013, Roy married Judy Rae Carr. They shared a special bond through their devotion for one another and their love of the Lord.\r\n\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Jo Ann Fraley; his brother, R.E. (Gene) Ward; and his wife, Betty Ward.\r\n\r\nLeft to cherish his memory are his wife, Judy Rae Carr Ward; sister-in-law, Delores Ward; niece, Colleen Denny Garamendi; nephew, Mark Fraley and wife Connie; niece, Denise Joyner and husband Jeff; niece, Desiree Fulbright and husband Mike; and niece, Cindy Michaelis and husband Joel; along with several great nieces and nephews. \r\n\r\nWe are certain that he was greeted in Heaven with the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant!"\r\n\r\n[contact-form-7 id="73" title="Send Condolences"]\r\n
