Rosa Lea Meek (Dickerson), 94, of Kerrville, Texas, passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2016 in Hunt, Texas at the home of her daughter. She was born in Hereford, Texas to Walter and Buna Fullwood on March 20, 1922. She married Carl D. Meek, Sr. on March 13, 1945 in Houston, Texas and later married Arthur P. Dickerson on September 19, 1988 in Kerrville, Texas.\r\n \r\nShe graduated from McAllen High School in May, 1939 and from McAllen Business College in 1941. Her father, Walter "Pop" Fullwood was a pioneer aviator and taught both his son and his daughter to fly at early ages. Rosa Lea soloed unofficially when she was 12 or 13 years old, then qualified for her private pilot license at age 18 in 1940 and her Commercial Pilot's License in 1942. With over 200 hours of flight time and at the tender age of 20, she then volunteered in 1943 to be a Women's Airforce Service Pilot (WASP) as a member of Class 43-W4 and flew military aircraft, including the famous P-51 fighter plane for two years during World War II as a ferry pilot. The WASPs were awarded the Congressional Gold Medal of Freedom in 2009. Rosa Lea and Carl Meek helped establish Kerrville Flying Service at the Municipal Airport and later owned Meek Motors, a car dealership, and Meek Real Estate, a real estate company. Later she was a Mooney Aircraft dealer, a successful Realtor and owner of Rosa Lea Realty as well as an Interstate Highway Commercial Property Developer in Kerrville, Junction and Pleasanton.\r\n \r\nRosa Lea Meek (Dickerson) is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Buna Fullwood, her brother, George Fullwood, and her husbands, Carl D. Meek, Sr. and Arthur P. Dickerson.\r\n \r\nShe is survived by her children, Janet Meek and Jack Holmgreen, Carl and Sharon Meek, Chuck and Mary Ann Dickerson, Gary and Gayle Dickerson, Sheila and Brown Stokes, Ricky and Diane Dickerson, and Diane and Jesse Clark; by her grandchildren, Rob and Lesley Henneke, Will Meek and husband, Erik Archambeault, Keith and Elizabeth Henneke, Carl Henneke, Daniel Meek and wife Kaylin Caulkins Meek, and Suzanne Meek and husband Elliot Pittman; and by her great grandchildren Michael, Jonathan, Hardy and Hunt Henneke; and by many more grandchildren (including Randy Faulk), great grandchildren and special friends that became part of her extended family over the years.\r\n \r\nVisitation will be Friday, November 18 from 5 to 7 pm at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville, Texas.\r\n \r\nGraveside service will be held Saturday, November 19 at 10 am at Garden of Memories in Kerrville, Texas. \r\n \r\nIn lieu of flowers, family asks that Memorials be given to support the production of the new "Fly Girls" 10-part television series so that the story of the WASPs can be better known.
