Roger L. Daniel, 89, of Kerrville, TX passed away at home surrounded by family on December 30, 2017. Survived by his wife, Norma T. Daniel, daughters Kay Birdsong (Ed) and Lynn Heron (John), step-son Curtis Banks, step-daughter Donna Banks; grandchildren Patrick Birdsong, Ryan Birdsong, Rebecca Schuiten, David Stroud, Tim Stroud, Sam Stroud, Adam Stroud, Laura Stroud, Billy Banks and 10 great-grandchildren. \r\n \r\nRoger was born in Denison, Texas on December 23, 1928 to Hazel (Grove) and J.E. Daniel. He was preceded in death by his siblings Roy, Jimmy and Chick. \r\n \r\nAfter graduating with his bachelor of arts degree in chemistry from Austin College he went on to earn a master of science degree in chemistry from Texas Tech University. He was certified in the comprehensive practice of industrial hygiene by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene. After college he worked for Phillips Petroleum before joining Dow Chemical in Freeport, Texas in 1957. In the early part of his career, he was the technical manager of the Solvents Technology Center. In 1973 he was named Manager of Environmental Health Services. He was instrumental in developing the first personnel monitoring program in 1972 for employees in the vinyl chloride plant and received Chemical Processing magazine's Vaaler Award in 1978 for Hydro-carbons in Water-Spill Detector. Over the years he represented Dow to the EPA, OSHA and other external organizations.\r\n \r\nFollowing his retirement from Dow Chemical, he moved to the Texas Hill Country where he pursued his interest in pottery and enjoyed travelling around the world. He loved music and often shared his talent for playing the piano with Nursing Homes and with friends and family. He enjoyed his time tutoring, mentoring and serving on the Boards of the Hill Country Arts Foundation and Tierra Linda Ranch.\r\n \r\nHe was a proud father and grandfather and cherished spending time with his family and friends. His Christian faith was of utmost importance to him. He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lake Jackson, Texas and is currently a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Kerrville. One of the highlights of his Christian faith was his walk to Emmaus in 2000. \r\n \r\nA Celebration of Life Service will be held at Trinity Baptist Church in Kerrville on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 11 a.m. Memorials may be given to Trinity Baptist Church in Kerrville or Kerr County Area Christian Assistance Ministry.\r\n \r\nThe family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Geoffrey Moses and the staff of Peterson Regional Medical Center and Peterson Hospice.
