Robert Zieve

April 23, 1928 — March 28, 2015

Robert (Bob) Lambert Zieve, 86, of Kerrville, TX passed away on March 28, 2015, after a valiant struggle to regain his failing health. Bob was born in beautiful Kamas Valley in Northern Utah on April 23, 1928, the son of Lorraine Lambert Zieve and Harry Zieve. He married Marilyn Anderson Gibbons on September 5, 1948 in Oakley, Utah. Bob spent his grammar school years in Kamas where he loved to fish. He ultimately became a lifelong, highly accomplished fly fisherman. Bob graduated from South Summit High School in Kamas in 1946 where he participated in many high school sports. He was the fullback on the first high school football team at South Summit, and was the center on the basketball team, plus participated in track and field events. While at South Summit, Bob met his future wife, Marilyn Gibbons, who was one year his junior. Bob was smitten for life by Marilyn and the two of them enjoyed 67 years of marriage before he passed.\r\n \r\nAfter high school, Bob worked cutting timber in the summers in the mountains near Kamas to earn money to attend the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Interested in science, he enrolled in the study of geophysics, a newly found academic discipline at the University. After one year, Marilyn joined him there. \r\n \r\nIn 1950, Bob earned a Bachelors of Science degree in geophysics and was hired by Stanolind Oil & Gas Company to work in Vernal, UT. His career progressed as the company became Standard Oil of Indiana and then ultimately, Amoco. He rose through the ranks to become District Geophysicist. In the following 35 years, Bob and Marilyn lived in Texas (where their daughter, Carol, was born), Alabama, North Dakota (where their son, Rick, was born), Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and ultimately back in Texas in Houston. \r\n \r\nDuring their time in Houston, Bob left his position at Amoco and joined Inexco Oil Company as the Vice President of Exploration. He held this position until his retirement in 1988, after which Bob and Marilyn moved to Kerrville in the Hill Country of Texas. They lived a happy retirement with their winters spent in Kerrville and their summers spent on the family T7 ranch in the mountains they loved in Utah. \r\n \r\nBob is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marilyn; his children, Carol Towne and Rick Zieve; his grandchildren, Jeff Towne, Andrea Sanger, Garret Zieve, and Glenn Zieve; great-grandchildren, Nathan Towne, Lucas Towne, Elizabeth Sanger and Colin Sanger; and his brother, Jack Zieve.\r\n \r\nBob's family extends much gratitude to the Peterson Hospice for providing such excellent care for him over the past months, especially to all the wonderful nurses and most of all to Nurse Lisa from whom he received such extraordinary care. \r\n \r\nA graveside service for Bob will take place at Salt Lake City Cemetery on Friday, April 10, 2015 at 2:00 pm, and a celebration of his life will be held at the Red Barn, Oakley, Utah on Saturday, April 11, from 3-6 pm. In Kerrville, a celebration of Bob's life will be held at the Riverhill Country Club from 3-6 pm on Thursday, April 23, 2015 - Bob's 87th birthday.\r\n \r\nMemorials may be given to Peterson Memorial Hospice in Kerrville, TX, or to the charity of your choice. \r\n \r\n[contact-form-7 id="73" title="Send Condolences"]
