Our loss is Heaven's gain! Robert Roy Rotge went home to be with Jesus and his beloved, Lenora, on February 1st, 2016. Robert was born in Kerrville, Texas on January 17, 1922, the youngest of six children to Peter and Lillie Mae Rotge.\r\n \r\nHe married his lifelong friend and sweetheart, Edna Lenora (Hubble), on May 16, 1942, four months before being inducted into the Army. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during WWII from September, 1942 until October, 1945. He served in England, France and Germany, and had many stories to share of his experiences during the war. He was the recipient of three Bronze Stars and other service ribbons.\r\n \r\nUpon his return home from the war, he began what would become his lifelong trade of carpentry, including attending carpentry school. He also worked on several ranches all around the Hill Country and was a good cowboy, horseman, and rancher. He had a fondness for livestock and animals of all types, and loved the outdoors and working with his hands. He also enjoyed farming, growing fruit trees, gardening and really enjoyed his chickens, or "feathers" as Mom often called them.\r\n \r\nAs a carpenter, he worked for over 50 years in and around the Hill Country, building custom homes and other structures, and was a master at his craft.\r\n \r\nBob became a believer and follower of Christ in the early 1950's and served his Lord throughout the remainder of this life. He was one of the builders of the Country Community Church and served as a board member, SS teacher and SS Superintendent. He also enjoyed playing church league softball and was pitcher for the church for many years.\r\n \r\nRobert also considered it a privilege when occasionally asked to share a message from God's Word, a dream or song from God. He and Lenora also sang special songs together at church for many years. It was special to hear them harmonize together on some of the old hymns.\r\n \r\nOur dad, grand-dad, great-grand-dad, uncle, cousin and friend will be greatly missed and our hearts are left with a gaping hole. At the same time, we are so thankful to the Lord for blessing us with the privilege of so many years with such a Godly man, and we take solace in the fact that he is no longer bound to a worn-out, mortal body! Instead, he has been reunited with his beloved Lenora and all those who have gone before in Christ. No doubt, he is skipping down the golden streets of Glory and enjoying the presence of his precious Savior, Jesus! I can only imagine! \r\n \r\nHe is survived by his six children: Robert T. Rotge (Marilyn), James R. Rotgé (Linda), Ronny R. Rotge (Twila), Charles W. Rotge (Lin Lin), Janice A. Rotge-Smith (Ronald Smith), and Sidney L. Rotge (Karen), 25 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.\r\n \r\nWe know our dad would say to everyone if he could..."If you have not accepted Jesus as your Savior and made Him Lord of your life, do so while you still can! Eternity is a long time...do you know where you will spend it?" \r\n \r\nVisitation will be at Grimes Funeral Chapels, Kerrville, Texas, from 5-7PM on Wednesday, February 3rd. The funeral service will also be held at Grimes Funeral Chapels at 2PM Thursday, February 4th, with burial to follow at Garden of Memories. \r\n \r\nIn lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Peterson Hospice Care.\r\n
