October 20, 1941 — August 19, 2017

Robert Thomas (Bob) Matjeka passed away in San Antonio, Texas on August 19th, 2017 at the age of 75.\r\n \r\nBob is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Louise Matjeka of San Antonio.\r\n \r\nBob is survived by his wife of 28 years, Elizabeth; his children, James Matjeka, Suzanne and husband Mitchel Bell; stepchildren, Patrick and wife Amy Strange, and Kimberly Knowles; his brother, Gary and his wife Dianne Matjeka; twelve grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.\r\n \r\nBob was born in San Antonio, Texas on October 20th, 1941 and attended Jefferson High School in the late 1950s during what he described as the glory years when the school produced a steady stream of Division 1 football talent. Bob graduated from Jefferson in 1959 and went on to graduate from the University of Texas, but the strong love for the game of football that he found during his high school years would carry over for his entire life as a committed supporter of UT and its football program. \r\n \r\nBob also loved the game of golf and was an avid player, student and teacher of the game up until his passing. Bob was a member of Riverhill Country Club in Kerrville and belonged to a number of other country clubs through the years where he developed many close friendships. \r\n \r\nBob was a teacher and a coach and mentored youth in various sports for many years, even after his children were grown. \r\n \r\nBob lived in San Antonio, Austin, Houston, and Kerrville in his life and was a CPA and real estate developer, both of which he enjoyed. Bob touched people and made close friendships in various and diverse locations and with individuals from all walks of life. He was passionate, engaged, and loyal, but also fun loving, caring, and always a deep thinker. Bob will be missed by a great many.\r\n \r\nServices will be held at 2pm on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Grimes Funeral Chapels, 728 Jefferson, Kerrville, TX 78028. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Bob's name to UT M.D. Anderson, PO Box 4486, Houston, TX 77210-4486.\r\n \r\n
