Robert Glasscock

September 16, 1943 — June 14, 2016

Robert Edward Glasscock passed away peacefully at his home, Tuesday, June 14, 2016, in the loving presence of family and dear friends. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, June 25 at 2:00PM, with a visitation at 1:00PM, just prior to the service. The service and visitation are being held at Grimes Funeral Chapels, 728 Jefferson Street, Kerrville, Texas. The Reverend Samuel A. Hunnicutt, Senior Pastor of First United Methodist Church, San Angelo, Texas will officiate. Entombment will be in the Hunt United Methodist Church Columbarium, Hunt, Texas.\r\n \r\nRobert Edward Glasscock was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, September 16, 1943 to Dorothy Freeze Glasscock and Charles William Glasscock. He was the second of three children. Ed was reared in Shreveport, where his father, Charles, was a partner in Glasscock Wilson Drilling, Inc. He attended Allen Military Academy in Bryan, Texas, and graduated from C.E. Byrd High School in Shreveport. During college at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, he was an active member of Kappa Sigma.\r\n \r\nEd moved to Lafayette, Louisiana in the mid-60's to work with Glasscock Chapman Drilling, Inc. Late in the 60's he became President of Glasscock Drilling, Inc. In the late 70's Glasscock Drilling was sold to W.R. Grace and Company.\r\n \r\nEd relocated to Houston, Texas in the early 80's. Typical of any true businessman, Ed took delight in "making deals!" As his friend, Mike Rutherford, fondly recalled, "Eddie was the ultimate salesman!" Ed was successful in his business ventures. His interests were varied, including ownership in Case Equipment Dealerships in Manor and Austin, Texas, and many other business dealings. But varied as his career was, throughout, the Oil and Gas Industry was his primary interest. Thus, three generations of Oil Drillers are completed: grandfather, Robert Edward Glasscock, Humble, Texas; father, Charles William Glasscock, Shreveport, Louisiana; and son, Robert Edward Glasscock "Eddie."\r\n \r\nEddie was the quintessential people person. He loved his friends. He enjoyed nothing more than being off at a ranch with his buddies, quail hunting, playing poker or gin, and just having fun. Even as he grew ill, the ranch outings still occurred as did other gatherings with friends. The numerous calls from well-wishers would sometimes weaken his voice. Eddie was grateful for his family and friends and thankful for his life. He was so very proud of his sons.\r\n \r\nSixteen years ago, Eddie settled in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, Hunt, Texas. He built a home on the banks of the beautiful Guadalupe River near our dear family friends, Sandra and Roger Chapman. Eddie had found his "heaven on earth."\r\n \r\nEd was predeceased by his parents, Charles William Glasscock and Dorothy Freeze Glasscock.\r\n \r\nHe is survived by two sons, Robert Edward Glasscock Jr. of Houston, Texas, and Dr. Robson Charles Glasscock and his wife, Marisa Roczen Glasscock of Laramie, Wyoming; one brother, Charles William Glasscock Jr. of Shreveport, Louisiana; one sister, Ann Glasscock Fitzgerald Dupree and her husband, Dr. Gene O. Dupree of Lafayette, Louisiana; nephews, David S. Fitzgerald and his wife, Kelley of Kaneohe, Hawaii, and Judge Charles G. Fitzgerald and his wife, Jeanne of Lafayette, Louisiana; and one niece, Frances Ainsley Fitzgerald Babin and her husband, Brent of Houston, Texas. He also is survived by many great nieces and nephews.\r\n \r\nEd's family wishes to thank all of his physicians, nurses, and caregivers for their excellent, professional, and compassionate care throughout his long and courageous battle with cancer. We would also like to thank Peterson Hospice of Kerrville, Texas for their compassion and direction in his final days. Ed's family is especially thankful for all of his dear friends who stood with him in the good times and in the difficult ones. You all certainly were a great blessing to him, and to his family, as well.\r\n \r\nAnyone wishing to make a memorial donation in Ed's name will please direct those to: The Benevolent Fund of the Hunt United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 137, Hunt, Texas 78024.\r\n \r\nFuneral arrangements are entrusted to Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville.
