Robert Allen Gardner, Jr. of Bandera, TX, died of natural causes at his home, August 12th. Allen was born in Orange, TX, on January 24th, 1943, to Dr. Robert Allen Gardner and his wife, Bette. He was a graduate of Lamar HS in Houston and the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned an MBA. He was twice president of the Tau chapter of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. He married Sharon Hudiburg in 1966 and loved her to the end of his days. Mr. Gardner earned the Bronze Star for meritorious service as a Captain in the Medical Service Corps of the US Army during the Vietnam War. He went on to a successful, forty-year career as a financial advisor for Blyth, Eastman Dillon & Co., PaineWebber & Co., and UBS Financial Services Inc. An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Gardner was an accomplished deer hunter and an enthusiastic collector of Native American arrowheads. True to his roots, he had a deep love of Texas blues music and BBQ. Among other things, friends and family will fondly remember Allen for his unusual sense of humor that kept everyone off balance and in stitches. Allen is survived by his wife Sherri, his daughter Lyn, his son Bobby, his brother Jim, his sister Sally, and their families. He was preceded in death by his daughter Beth. A Celebration of Life will be held at his home in Bandera at 4:00 PM Saturday, August 21st. Comfortable dress is encouraged; suits are prohibited.
