Robert Follmar

May 8, 1931 — June 21, 2017

Robert "Boots" Follmar, Jr., 86, unexpectedly left this earthly world on June 21, 2017, to take his place in Heaven. He was born May 8, 1931, in Houston, Texas, to Robert G. Follmar and Isabel Martha (Walden) Follmar. \r\n \r\nAfter graduating Jeff Davis High School in Houston and Lee College in Baytown, Boots then proudly served in the United States Air Force. In 1950, he married his high school sweetheart, Alice Follmar. Boots was one of the leading boat dealers in Houston for over 32 years, earning a multitude of distinguished awards from Mercury Marine, Skeeter, and Ranger Boats. He was one of only five master mechanics in the United States during the 1980s. Upon retirement, he moved to the Hill Country in 2000. After the loss of his beloved wife, Alice, to Lou Gehrig's Disease in 2011, Boots met and married Kathleen Holland. It was soon clear that God had placed her in his life for a reason. Because of her medical background and loving devotion to him, she played a vital role in helping him to recover from a life-threatening cancer. Just two days before his passing, Boots celebrated five years being cancer-free. \r\n\r\nIn his retirement, Boots enjoyed restoring antique tractors- he belonged to the Fredericksburg Antique Tractor Club- and he proudly showed them in parades and shows in the Hill Country. Throughout his life, Boots loved spending time fishing and hunting. Next to God, family was the most important thing to him. Boots was a very loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather; His family will forever remember his stories and his witty quips. They were very proud to call him "Papa."\r\n \r\nBoots was a true "people person" and genuinely loved sharing his stories with others, even if he had no idea who they were. Everyone who talked to Boots walked away smiling. A member of Calvary Temple Church, Robert "Boots" was respected by many. He began each day in prayer, praying by name for each member of his family, as well as friends who were in need. Practical, friendly, intelligent, compassionate, hardworking, selfless, God-fearing, steadfast, easy-going, faithful, generous, honest- none of these words fully capture the spirit and vitality with which Boots lived his life. \r\n \r\nBoots is survived by his wife, Kathleen Holland Follmar of Kerrville; son, Chris Follmar, daughter, Vicki Follmar McComb, and daughter-in-law, Sharon Follmar, all of Kerrville; sister, Sandra Sanford of San Antonio; brother, Ronald Follmar and wife, Claire, and brother-in-law, Matt Toole, both of Kerrville; 9 grandchildren, Amanda Klaerner, Stacey Covington, Steven McComb, Heather Follmar, Crystal Simmons, Misty Follmar, Bryce Simons, Mykala Follmar, and Cole Follmar; and 7 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Alice Follmar, a son, Kenneth Follmar, and a sister, Joann Follmar Toole.\r\n \r\nA Celebration of Life is currently scheduled for Saturday, July 15, 2017. It will take place at Calvary Temple Church at 2 pm, with Pastor Del Way officiating. \r\n \r\nRevelation 21:4 "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."
