Robert Lee Davis III passed peacefully from his earthly life early Sunday morning, November 18, 2018, at his home in Ingram, Texas. After a year long battle with lung cancer, Bob, family and friends were happy to celebrate his milestone 80th birthday on November 5, 2018.\r\n\r\nBob was born in Houston, Texas on November 5, 1938, first born child to Robert Lee Davis Jr. and Winifred Freeman Davis. Following family tradition, Bob attended and graduated from Culver Military Academy in Culver, Indiana after which he served in the US Air Force in Okinawa during the early days of the Vietnam War. Upon return to the states, he was stationed at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida where he met his bride to be, Marylin Shaver of Pennsylvania. Bob and Marylin married July 18, 1964 in Hooversville, PA. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from the University of Tampa in 1965.\r\n\r\nIn the late 1960's Bob worked as a Systems Engineer for IBM, supporting the space program at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL. In 1973 Bob moved his growing family to PA where he was employed as a Systems Engineer for Rockwell International in Pittsburgh, PA. \r\n\r\nBob's entrepreneurial spirit was realized with the birth of the Computer Age. Bob formed Davis Hallmark which designed, built, and supported custom software for businesses. In his early retirement years he enjoyed working at Hexco Academic, Hunt, TX, creating study materials for UIL student competition in Texas.\r\n\r\nBob was a loving and caring father to his children, Robert Lee Davis IV and Kimberly Davis Pickard. Many were the lessons learned and unique adventures had with their Dad. He dearly loved his two grandsons, Philip and Leo Pickard.\r\n\r\nBlessed with a keen intellect and boundless creative energy Bob was led to many interests during his lifetime. Among these were flying, auto mechanics, mathematical and scientific research, creative writing, crossword puzzles, music, woodworking and gardening.\r\n\r\nRobert was always an active participant in the organizations he joined. Throughout his life he enjoyed meeting and greeting people as an usher at his church. He was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, serving at Kerrville's Post 1480 as Quartermaster from 1999-2002; theHill Country Sons of the American Revolution; and was recognized for his service to the Major James Kerr Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution while his wife served as regent. He enjoyed serving on the board of the Hill Country Chorale and the Hochheim Prairie Insurance local branch board. \r\n\r\nBob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee Davis Jr. and Winifred Freeman Davis and his three siblings, John Freeman Davis, Sarah Davis Dalton and Stewart Thorpe Davis. \r\n\r\nHe will be missed by his devoted wife of 54 years Marylin Shaver Davis; his son, Robert Lee Davis IV and daughter-in-law, Minerva Kincaid; his daughter, Kimberly Davis Pickard, and son-in-law David Andrew Pickard; his grandsons Philip Pickard and Leo Pickard; his stepmother Hermie Davis; his many loving cousins, nieces and nephews; his Pennsylvania Family and his caring neighbors Paul and Tammy.\r\n\r\n\r\nThe family wishes to thank all who assisted in Bob's care over the past year. Sincere thanks to Dr. Young and the wonderful angels of Peterson Hospice for their invaluable guidance and assistance over the final months of Bob's life.\r\n\r\nA Celebration of Robert's life will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 11am at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 135 Methodist Encampment Road, Kerrville, TX.
