Richard Westley

Richard Noyer Westley, 93, of Pipe Creek, Texas, passed away on September 30, 2016. He was born in Westerville, Nebraska to Lois and Charles Westley on May 12, 1923. He married Nancy Ladd Westley on January 16, 1946 in Flushing, NY.\r\n\r\nHe graduated from Grand Rapids High School and went on to Ball State Teachers College in Indiana for one year. On November 1, 1941, he enrolled in the Gallups Island Radio School on Gallups Island, Boston, graduating in class R-9 in August 1942.\r\n\r\nHe served in the Maritime Services as a radio operator during WWII for 13 months serving aboard the vessel S.S. Totico. Following this, he flew as radio operator and navigator for Pan American Grace, American Overseas Airlines, and the commercial Flying Tigers.\r\n\r\nAfter his flying days, he went to work for McDonnell Douglas, Borroughs, and finally with IBM, where he was employed as a systems analyst for 16 years.\r\n\r\nUpon retirement, Richard and his wife, Nancy, ventured west with their Airstream, a passion they shared for over 50 years in the Wally Byam Caravan Club International, and settled in Pipe Creek, TX where they bought property, built a house, joined a church, and traveled the country many times over, meeting great people and often providing summer travels for their grandchildren, Laura and Margaret.\r\n\r\nRichard is survived by his spouse of 70 years, Nancy L. Westley; children, Bonnie A. Westley and Mary L. Westley; and grandchildren, Laura A. Westley-Williams and Margaret A. Westley. \r\n\r\nHe was preceded in death by his son, Bruce M. Westley.\r\n\r\nA Celebration of Life service lead by Rev. John Watson, will be held Saturday, October 15th at 11am at Pipe Creek Presbyterian Church, 8589 TX-16 , Pipe Creek, Texas.\r\n\r\nIn lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Pipe Creek Presbyterian Church. \r\n\r\nThe family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the medical staff of Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Alamo Hospice of Boerne, Bandera Nursing and Rehab, the Veterans Administration, and supportive friends.
