Richard Rouse

Richard Wilson Rouse, 87, passed away Sunday, April 23, 2017, in Kerrville, TX. He was born in Media, PA, January 9, 1930, to parents Wilson Milton Rouse and Rachel Rivenburgh Rouse. His family moved to Griffing Park in Port Arthur, TX, where he grew up and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. He attended Texas A & M University, where he was in the Corps of Cadets, and graduated with a degree in architecture from the University of Houston in 1952. After marrying his high school sweetheart, Mary Ellen Forester, in 1952, he served two years in the U S Army in Fort Riley, Kansas. After serving in the military, they made their home in Beaumont, TX, where Richard was employed by Stone & Pitts Architects. In 1960, he was hired as the head architect for H.E. Butt Grocery Company, in Corpus Christi, where he lived and worked until he retired in 1983. They moved to Kerrville in 2002. In 2005, he married Charlene Downey, his loving wife and companion for the last 12 years. \r\n \r\nRichard was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Mary Ellen Rouse; his parents, and his only brother, Philip M. Rouse. He is survived by his wife, Charlene Downey Rouse; his four children: Kathryn Rouse James (John) of Bellaire, TX.; Richard F. Rouse (Lane) of Kerrville, TX; D. Scott Rouse (Lisa) of Kerrville, TX; and Stuart A. Rouse (Sonja) of Boerne, TX.; eleven grandchildren: Matthew James (Jennifer), Kevin James (Janet), Ellen James Rigney (Nathan), Peter James, Hannah James, and Rachel James; Cara Rouse Gilbreath (Jason) and Lauren Rouse Prewett (Trevor); Erin Rouse (Theresa) and Garrett Rouse (Cristina); and Kathryn Gerwig (Mike); nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and Charlene's children: Bob Downey (Debbie), Dwayne Downey (Dyanne), Charles Downey (Sammie), Sherry Wyatt (Chris), Sheryl Ann Bowlin and grandchildren, whom he loved, as well.\r\n \r\nFuneral services will be held Thursday, April 27, at 10:00 a.m., at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville, with graveside services following at Garden of Memories Cemetery. Family visitation will be Wednesday, April 26, from 5:00-7:00 p.m., at the funeral home.\r\n
