Richard Bendele

Richard Wayne Bendele, 62, of Lakehills, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2015, after an almost four-year-battle with cancer. He was born in San Antonio, Texas, to Charles and Julia Bendele on January 10, 1953.\r\n\r\nRichard was a man of many trades and talents. There wasn't much he couldn't do. For most of his life, Richard's livelihood revolved around all things construction. While working as a superintendent for residential home builder NPC in the 1980s, he even won the Parade of Homes. Later in life, he also dabbled in the nursery business, as he had a lifelong passion for growing and caring for all types of plants. Like his father, Richard drew great pleasure from music, and had a natural affinity for the piano. He also served in the Navy as a young man. \r\n\r\nRichard is preceded in death by his father, Charles August Bendele, Jr., and his daughters' mother, Renee Alexis Pace.\r\n\r\nRichard is survived by his two daughters, Stephanie Forbes and Suzanne O'Neill, and their spouses, Christian Forbes and Martin O'Neill; six siblings, Barbara Clanahan, John Bendele, Kathy Sheridan, Janet Bendele, Jim Bendele, and Amy Moore; mother, Julia Bendele; three grandchildren, Natalie Forbes, Alexis O'Neill, and Julia O'Neill; and his longtime lady friend, Nancy Robards.\r\n\r\nVisitation was held Sunday at Grimes Funeral Chapels, Bandera, Texas.\r\n\r\nFuneral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, February 16, 2015, at Lakehills United Methodist Church, 150 Ave J, Lakehills, Texas, with Reverend Celia Halfacre, officiating. Burial will be at Pipe Creek Cemetery, across the street from 1134 FM 1283, Pipe Creek, Texas.\r\n\r\nPallbearers were John Bendele, Sr., Jim Bendele, Fred Sheridan, Sr., Mike Haynes, John Bendele, Jr., Matthew Clanahan, Jacob Lambrecht, and Clay Robards.\r\n\r\nMemorials may be given to the Down Syndrome Association of Houston, 7115 W Tidwell Rd, Building K, Suite 106, Houston, Texas 77092.
