Ray Wharton, 94, of Bandera, passed away Monday, October 20, 2014, in the arms of his wife Ada Ender Wharton at his home in Bandera. He was born in kerr County, on the banks of Turtle Creek on February 17, 1920, to Sidney Lee (Pappy) and Margaret Ruth McDonald Wharton.\r\n\r\nHe married Ada Ender on July 22, 1970 in Mexico. Ray attended school in Center Point and Tarpley. He worked on many ranches and dude ranches. His ranching abilities lead him to win the Rodeo Cowboys World Championship Roping in 1956. He was inducted into the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City in 1994. He was also inducted into the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame in 2002 and the Frontier Time Museum's Texas Heros Hall of Fame in 2009. Ray was recognized by the Texas Senate on April 24, 1995.\r\n\r\nRay was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Harold & David Wharton.\r\n\r\nHe is survived by his wife, Ada, his brother, Wayne and wife, LaVern, sister-in-law, Mary Linder and husband, Lawrence and numerous neices & nephews.\r\n\r\nFamily visitation will be at Sunday, 4:00 to 6:00PM, October 26, 2014.\r\n\r\nFuneral services will be held Monday, October 27, 2014, at 2:00PM at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Bandera. Burial will follow at the Bandera Cemetery.\r\n\r\nPallbearers will be John Teich, Speedy Hutcheson, George Hamilton, George Shaman, Gary Fries, David Wharton Jr., Johnny Boyle and Ray D'Spain.\r\n\r\nHonorary Pallbearers will be Carl Prelli, Buddy Groff, Scooter Fries, Joe Davis, Jerry Armstrong and Larry Lindner.\r\n\r\nMemorial in his memory may be given to the Frontier Time Museum.\r\n\r\nAda wishes to thank River City Hospice and especially Maria Elvira Richardson for their kind and tender care. \r\n\r\n[contact-form-7 id="73" title="Send Condolences"]
