Phyllis Cargile

April 6, 1937 — February 15, 2019

Phyllis Ann (Harp) Cargile passed away February 15, 2019, at Peterson Regional Medical Center in the presence of her loving husband and daughters. She was born on April 6, 1937, in Wewoka, Oklahoma, to Ernest J. Harp and Faye Juanita Johnson. She grew up moving frequently as her father followed the oil booms from Oklahoma and across south Texas. In 1947, they moved to Venezuela and then settled in Odessa, Texas, where Phyllis graduated from high school in 1955. \r\n\r\nIn her senior year of high school, she met Leslie L. Cargile whom she married on June 15, 1956, while Les was studying Petroleum Engineering at Texas Tech University. Phyllis and Les had two children born in Midland, Texas: Jana Lea (1962) and Susan Elizabeth (1964).\r\n\r\nPhyllis loved to travel and lived in or visited many interesting places. She moved 13 times in the next 34 years, including twice to both West Arica and Northern Sumatra. When Les retired in 1992, he and Phyllis settled in Kerrville, Texas. After moving so frequently, both as a child and during marriage, she remained in Kerrville for 27 years prior to her death. \r\n\r\nShe was a devoted animal lover and over the years gave many dogs and cats a wonderful and loving home. She loved watching the deer and antelope in the back yard, as well as taking care of any cats who would show up in the neighborhood. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation the Freeman Fritts Veterinary Clinic and Shelter, 515 Spur 100, Kerrville, TX 78028; www.freemanfritts.com.\r\n\r\nThe family will host a casual visitation with friends on Monday, February 18 between 4:00 and 6:00 pm at Grimes Funeral Chapels. \r\n\r\n
