Philip N. Tilden, Sr. ("Phil"), Lieutenant Colonel Chaplain-US Army Retired, age 93 of Kerrville, passed away Monday, November 24, 2014. He held the following degrees: B.A., M.A., M. Div., Th. M., and Ph.D. He also graduated from Stanford University, Radio and Television Institute and Rio Hondo Police Academy. He was a licensed Marriage, Family Child Therapist.\r\n \r\nHe is survived by his sons, Philip Tilden Jr. and wife Lori, Daniel Tilden and Robert Young; daughters, Francy Neal and Juanita Alfaro; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Doris R. Tilden.\r\n \r\nPhil was born August 28, 1921 in Assam, India, of missionary parents.\r\n \r\nHe was a pastor of churches in California and Texas and was the founding pastor of the Sunrise Baptist Church in Kerrville, TX where he was pastor for 7 years. His latest pastorate was the First Christian Church in Fredericksburg, TX. He has served as Ambassador for the Commission to Every Nation since 2001. He formally served as Associational Evangelist for Wilbarger County and worked with the Southern Baptist Home Mission Board as a consultant.\r\n \r\nHe served on active duty in the U.S. Army as Chaplain and was Chaplain at the Kerrville VA Hospital for 16 years.\r\n \r\nHe also worked for Heart of the Hills Hospice as Director of Volunteers, owned and operated a counseling office in Kerrville, was counselor for the 3 H Boys Ranch for two years. In California he was youth counselor for a local police department and was counselor for Dr. James Dobson's Focus on the Family, and served as executive Vice President of the Easter Seal Society for Riverside and Imperial Counties. Phil was very active in the communities where he lived. In California he was interim manager of the Rialto Chamber of Commerce two different times, was Lt Governor for the California, Nevada, and Hawaii Kiwanis and was a life member of Kiwanis. Here in Kerrville he was Vice Chairman of MHMR Citizens Advisory Committee for several counties. He served as president of Christian Assistance Ministries, president of Kerrville Ministerial Alliance, volunteer for Court Appointed Special Advocate and was a member of the Home Opportunity Advisory Board for the City Council of Kerrville and as a Pre-Need Counselor for Grimes Funeral Chapels and served with the Board of Habitat for Humanity.\r\n \r\nHe was Assistant to the President of California Baptist University; was professor of Speech and Drama at the University of Corpus Christi. He was a teacher at Stanford University and at Golden State Baptist Theological Seminary. For several years he was a lobbyist in Sacramento, California for the Committee on Moral Concerns.\r\n \r\nHe was an accomplished magician, ventriloquist and was often asked to be an after dinner speaker at banquets and civic clubs.\r\n \r\nServices will be held Friday, November 28, 2014, 6 PM at Grimes Funeral Chapels, officiated by Dr. Melburn Hardin. Private burial will be at Ft.
