Paul Clay Powell, 88, of Austin, left this life on January 10, 2018 in Kerrville, Texas. He was born in Fort Worth, TX, February 2, 1929, to Willis Maynor Powell and Katherine Bruckner. He lovingly married his beautiful wife, Dorothy Lucille Dayvault on October 8, 1955 in Houston, Texas at St. John the Divine.\r\n\r\nPaul graduated from Austin High School in 1947 at the age of 18. He then went to the University of Texas and graduated in 1951 with a degree in civil engineering. Paul served in the military, as a part of the Air Force during the Korean War, building radar towers in Morocco. \r\n\r\nAfter serving in the military, and marriage to Dorothy Powell, Paul opened his own construction company building homes in Austin. In 1957 Paul joined Brown & Root Inc in Houston where he was employed for 23 years. In 1967 he transferred to the international division and the family lived in England, Japan, Iran, and Bahrain. In 1981 Paul joined Exxon and worked in Malaysia for several years. In 1984 Paul and Dorothy returned to the U.S. and lived in Comfort, TX until 1994 when they moved to Hunt, TX and found a new home and loving community. He worked on various projects, such as the First United Methodist Church, Sid Peterson Hospital, Hunt I.S.D., and many others for Huser Construction Company Inc., helping build his community and home. \r\n\r\nPaul was a loving and devoted son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He was also a dedicated and faithful member of the Episcopal church, serving the Lord as an acolyte, Sunday School teacher, and member of the vestry. \r\n\r\nPaul is preceded in death by parents, Willis and Katherine Powell, brother, Willis M. Powell Jr., and his devoted wife of 56 years, Dorothy Dayvault Powell. He is survived by his daughters, Emily Powell, and Christianne Powell, and his grandchildren Andrew and Lilly VanHyfte.\r\n\r\nMemorial Services will be held at 2pm on Friday, January 19th at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, with Rev. Mike Wheeler officiating.\r\n\r\nMemorials maybe designated to Peterson Hospice or Hilltop Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. \r\n\r\nA special thank you to the personnel at Peterson Hospice and Hilltop Village for their immense love and dedication these past few months.
