Paul Thomas Pavlovsky, age 68, of Center Point passed away suddenly on March 26, 2017, in a Kerrville hospital. He was born in San Antonio, Texas, the second son of Jackie (Graham) and Andy S. Pavlovsky. Paul married Carolyn Welch on June 15, 1968 at St Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in San Antonio. \r\n\r\nHe graduated from Thomas Edison High School in San Antonio in 1966. He joined the U.S. Navy in August 16, 1967 serving four years as an aviation mechanic. He was stationed at NAS Kingsville for over two years with training squadron VT21. His last deployment was aboard the U.S.S. Franklin D. Roosevelt assigned to Attack Squadron VA215. He was honorably discharged on July 25, 1971. Shortly after returning to Texas, he began studies at Texas A&I (now Texas A&M University Kingsville) graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology and Geology, August, 1975. After graduation, Paul accepted a teaching position with Katy ISD, as an 8th grade Earth Science teacher for a new school - West Memorial Junior High, where he taught for 27 years and served as head of the science department. He was affectionately called "Mr. Pav" by his students. \r\n\r\nPaul was preceded in death by his beloved grandmother, Bertha Graham "Nana Bert;" grandfather, Frank Graham; both of his parents, Jackie (Graham) and Andy Pavlovsky; and younger brother, Eddie Pavlovsky. \r\n\r\nIn addition to Carolyn, his wife of almost 49 years, Paul is survived by his two sons; Nicklas Pavlovsky, wife Jennifer, and daughters Brianne and Calleigh of Houston; his younger son Matthew, wife Chelsea, and three daughters - Kylie, Emma and Mayson of Schertz, Texas; Paul's older brother Andy "Dusty" Pavlovsky, and wife Norma of San Antonio, younger brothers James Anthony "Tony" Pavlovsky, and wife Irene of Katy, TX; Mark Pavlovsky and wife Kathy of Pleasanton, TX; sister Mary Micklitz, and husband Greg of San Antonio; and brother-in-law James Welch and wife Donna of Davenport, Iowa. Paul also leaves numerous cousins, nieces and nephews as well as eight great nephews/nieces.\r\n\r\nPaul loved teaching and was dedicated to imparting knowledge to his students. Even after he retired from the classroom, he continued "to" teach whenever the opportunity arose with his sons, friends and granddaughters. He took advantage of road trips to describe the geology and/or the history of the area. Paul was always fascinated with the Civil War and World War II, reading extensively about battles, strategies, commanding officers and locations. He talked at length with both his father about his experience as an Army Air Corp pilot in the Pacific during World War II and his father-in-law, Francis Welch, who served in the European Theater. \r\n\r\nPaul was a loving and patient husband, father, and "Grandpa" who adored his five smart, beautiful and talented granddaughters. He attended many football and soccer games, as well as concerts and all scouting events for both his sons. One summer he volunteered to accompany Nick's Boy Scout troop to Big Bend and taught several badges on geology and the environment. Paul never wanted to be the person in the lime-light, but rather preferred to work in the back ground doing whatever was needed.\r\n\r\nPaul acquired a deep love of surf fishing from his "Uncle Bud," when in junior high spending many weekends and Thanksgivings on Padre Island. After marrying Carolyn, he became an avid deer hunter. This love continued through the remainder of his life, passing his passion on to both sons and daughters-in-laws!\r\n\r\nThe family will hold a celebration of Paul's life on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 2:00p.m. at Grimes Funeral Chapel located at 728 Jefferson, in Kerrville, followed by a gathering at their home in Center Point.\r\n\r\nThe family asks that, if desired, memorials can be made to Center Point Public School Foundation which provides scholarships for Center Point high school students as well as funds special needs the teaching staff may need.
