\r\nOscar Valdez age 87 was taken to heaven on Monday, February 11, 2019 following a brief series of health issues. \r\n\r\nOscar was born in Karnes County, Texas on August 6, 1931 to Carlos Valdez and Beatriz Fuentes Valdez. He went to school at Fox Tech High School in San Antonio, Texas. He furthered his education by going to business college and graduated with a business administration degree. Oscar owned and operated the El Paso Meat Market and Cafeteria in San Antonio for twenty eight years before moving to Bandera. He was very kind and good hearted to everyone. He helped many kids who lived close to his store with school shoes and school supplies. He gave hot dogs to all the kids during Christmas. On April 17, 1960 he was united in marriage\r\nto Diamantina Gomez in Sonora, Texas a marriage that lasted more than half a century. \r\n\r\nOscar was a very loyal and long time member of Grace Lutheran Church in Bandera. He was one of the two who started the Wild Game Dinner that has become an annual event. He also made several hundreds of dollars worth of summer sausage for the church and would sell the sausage during the Wild Game Dinners. In the early mornings of the event he cooked breakfast outside on a camp fire for the workers. Oscar and Tina have been residents of Bandera for more than thirty five years.\r\n\r\nOscar was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Carlos Mario Valdez, Joe Valdez and Emeterio Valdez. He is survived by his wife of fifty nine years Diamantina (Tina) Gomez Valdez; his children Aurora Betancourt, Kristina Diane Rodriguez, Oscar Fabian Valdez, Cynthia Valdez D'Spain and Victoria Elena Camacho; nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, numerous extended family members and many treasured friends.\r\n\r\nThe family will receive friends from 5 PM to 7 PM Friday, February 15, 2019 at Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera. The service celebrating Oscar's life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Grace Lutheran Church, 451 Hwy 173 N, Bandera, Texas with interment to follow at Bandera Cemetery. A reception will follow at the church. \r\n\r\nPallbearers will be Karl Buettner, Larry Lindner, Ronnie Hacker, Matthew Valdez, Gabriel Gomez and Jaime Gomez
