Oleta “LaVern” Wharton, age 91, passed away peacefully at home on October 5th 2022. She lived a long, happy, and impactful life.
Born February 24th 1931 to Nimrod J. D’spain and Otila Pool D’Spain, LaVern was the oldest of 4 children and had three younger brothers. LaVern attended Business College and worked in the Life Insurance industry for 34 years. She enjoyed playing Tennis, Golf, and Softball. At a young age, LaVern was diagnosed with breast cancer, and was a 43 year cancer survivor.
LaVern was married to Paul Wayne Wharton more than 60 years and together they lived in Bandera Texas and raised four children. They had many friends and family that often gathered together at The Cabaret, they played cards on Friday nights, went on trips to Las Vegas together, enjoyed Friday night Football games, there were many Bar-B-Ques, and you can’t forget the hunting trips. She enjoyed hunting at the ranch, and digging for arrowheads.
LaVern was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Wayne Wharton; Brothers, Carel D’Spain and Kenneth D’Spain. Survived by Children, Lisa LaVern Carder, Jennifer Wharton Hasty, Ian Wharton, Jimmy Rodgers Wharton; Grandchildren, Nathan Carder, Cody Carder, Haley Carder, Clayton Hasty, Michelle Zapata; Brother, Willard D’Spain; nieces, nephews, and many other family and friends
LaVern was strong, resilient, kind, and loving. She will be forever missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held on October 15, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. at the Bandera United Methodist Church in Bandera, Texas.
