Norwood Gray 'Speedy' Read, 99, of Kerrville, Texas, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018. He was born in Cooper County, Missouri to F. Norwood and Cecil Read on August 19, 1918.\r\n\r\nSpeedy grew up in Marshall, Missouri and graduated from Missouri Valley College in 1939. He married Dorothy Mae Delfs of Abilene, Kansas. Speedy was a United States Army veteran of the European Theater in World War II and the Korean War. He received numerous medals including the Bronze Star Medal with oak leaf cluster. After retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1960, Speedy moved his family to Littleton, Colorado where he worked for General Motors Acceptance Corporation. In 1980, Speedy and Dorothy retired to the Kerrville area. He enjoyed playing golf, bridge, and volunteer work including the annual Senior Games.\r\n\r\nSpeedy is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Dorothy. \r\n\r\nHe is survived by his children, Rick Read and wife, Ginger of Ponte Vedra, Florida; Sue Morganegg and husband, Denny of Yorkville, Illinois; and Steven Read and wife, Rosemarie of Naples, Florida. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Rick and Kim Read, Rachelle and Scott Moyers, John and Kelly Morganegg, Scott Morganegg, and Linda Burton, and nine great-grandchildren.\r\n\r\nA memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 21 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Kerrville.\r\n\r\n
