Norman Jackson, Sr.

December 4, 1934 — January 4, 2019

Norman Bill Jackson, Sr., lovingly called "Daddy Bill" was born December 4, 1934, in Brackettville, Texas, the oldest of three siblings, to the late Herbert Jackson and Bernice Phillips. Bill passed peacefully into God's care on Friday, January 4, 2019. \r\n\r\nBill attended public schools in Brackettville, Texas. Upon graduation from high School he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served from 1953-1957 at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He later met Minerva "Minnie" Vasquez and after a brief courtship they were married on January 23, 1956. To this union was born three sons, Norman Bill, Jr., Neval Allen, and James Raymond and 3 daughters, Jo Ann, Debrah Jean, and Zena B. The family resided in Brackettville, Texas for a number of years prior to relocating to Kerrville, Texas where they made their home and raised their six children.\r\n\r\nBill was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather and supported his children in many school and community related activities. Having been raised in the Catholic faith Bill inspired his children, grandchildren, and others to believe that all things are possible with God's help. He was kind-hearted and pleasant with a humble spirit but would speak his mind if the situation called for it. \r\n\r\nBill loved his family and was especially proud of his 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He greatly enjoyed family time, family gatherings and family reunions. If he wasn't cooking meat on the barbeque pit you could probably find him at the domino table. Bill enjoyed listening to country music, watching western movies, drinking diet Coke, and loved head massages. Daddy Bill was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs. \r\n\r\nBill enjoyed a long and illustrious career with the Veteran's Administration as the Food Service Supervisor where he acquired many friends and colleagues. After over 35 years of service, Bill retired from the VA and worked for Walmart for about 5 years before deciding to retire full-time from employment.\r\n\r\nEarly Friday morning, January 4, 2019, at Peterson Regional Medical Center, Bill peacefully transitioned from this life to his Heavenly Home. In his celestial resting place, Daddy Bill has now joined his parents, Herbert Jackson and Bernice Phillips; brothers, John Nunley and Harold Jackson; sister Gladys Hansberg; and great grandson Dominique Batts, who preceded him in death.\r\n\r\nHe leaves to celebrate and cherish the memories of his life, his devoted wife for 62 years, Minerva "Minnie" Jackson; his sons and daughters and their families, Norman Bill Jackson, Jr. (Genise); Neval Allen Jackson (Jeanet); Jo Ann Batts (Manford); James Raymond Jackson; Debrah Jean Jackson; and Zena "Baby Love" Jackson.\r\n\r\nBill also leaves to mourn his passing but to cherish precious memories his sister Ola Ruth Tadlock (John) ; and uncle Tony Phillips (Leslie); 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and a host of other family members and loved ones, great nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and many good friends.\r\n \r\nThe Memorial Celebration of Daddy Bill's life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Grimes Funeral Chapels, 728 Jefferson Street, Kerrville, Texas.\r\n\r\n
