Petronella (Nellie) Vandenakker completed her life's sojourne on May 4th, 2018 at the age of 92 at her earthly home of Kerrville, TX.\r\n \r\nShe was born in Zoouterwoude, the Netherlands to Wilhelmus Van der Poel and Antoinetta de Vroomen. She married her husband Nick Van den Akker in 1957 and moved to the United States to explore new opportunities. Early on in their retirement both Nick and Nellie enjoyed traveling in their Avion trailer throughout the United States and Mexico. When Nick's health failed they quickly made Kerrville their home and made many wonderful friends. \r\n \r\nNellie had a gift for putting others first and always could be counted on when needed. She was an eternal optimist that others loved to be around. As an RN she volunteered her time at the Raphael Clinic from the day it opened its door and loved every minute of her time there.\r\n \r\nShe was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Nick. \r\n \r\nSurvivors include her sister, Willie Grinberg of the Netherlands; niece, Mary Alice Puckett and family; nephews, Bernard Stork and Alex Stork and family; and other nieces and nephews in the Netherlands and New Zealand.\r\n \r\nA Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 2 PM, June 10, 2018 at the Rio Robles Rec Hall.
