Nancy Langford

Nancy Elizabeth Tipton Langford, age 84, of Bandera, TX, passed away on June 18, after a brief illness. She was born to the late Roy Tipton and Thelma Tipton on October 18, 1934, in Houston, TX. \r\n\r\nNancy graduated from Cranford High School in Cranford, New Jersey, and went on to attend Southwestern University, where she became a member of the Tri Delta Sorority. While she was in college, she met the love of her life, Travis Langford, who was attending Texas A&M. \r\nAfter graduation, they were married on April 12, 1958, in Cranford, and later settled in San Antonio, TX, after Travis was discharged from the United States Army. Nancy worked a variety of jobs while raising her two children, Cynthia (Cindy) and Joe. She taught kindergarten for several years, and later worked for the Texas Employment Commission, as well as H&R Block. \r\n \r\nNancy enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. For many summers, she visited the Texas Gulf Coast with her sisters-in-law, Bea and Nina. They enjoyed other trips to New England and the Southwest together. No matter where they were, shopping was a key component! She also traveled to London and Paris with her daughter Cindy and son-in-law Michael in 2006 and 2008. She and Travis visited many areas in the Northwest and Southwest, but their favorite destination was Ruidoso, New Mexico.\r\n \r\nNancy first started sewing as a new young mother. Over the years, she made many formals and outfits for Cindy, even up to the time of Cindy's first year of teaching. She later took up quilting as a hobby and created many beautiful items. A host of family members and friends are the proud owners of a Nancy-created quilt or baby blanket. Nancy also donated baby blankets to the church for their fund-raising activities.\r\n \r\nAfter Travis' retirement, they built a home on the Langford Ranch and became involved in the community, including the Bandera United Methodist Church. Nancy was an active member, serving on the board of trustees, and participating in activities with the United Methodist Women. She was co-chairman of the kitchen committee that compiled the church cookbook A Feast from the Texas Hills, published in 2002. She was also a member of the Cut-ups, which she dearly enjoyed and was actively engaged in even up to the final days of her life. She loved creating greeting cards and other various crafts as well as preparing baked goods for the group's fund-raising activities. \r\n \r\nNancy loved life at the Langford Ranch. Every day was a new testament to the glory of God's creation. The cows with their calves, the deer, the turkeys, the jackrabbits and cottontails, stunning sunrises and sunsets, and the beautiful flowers and trees were a source of never-ending pleasure to her. \r\n\r\nNancy was predeceased by her parents Roy and Thelma Tipton, her brother and sister-in-law Roy and Bette Tipton, and her daughter-in-law Melinda Langford. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Travis; her daughter Cynthia Jean and son-in-law Michael Taylor; her son Joe David; and her grandchildren Erin and Sam, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.\r\n\r\nA Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 22,2019 at 1:00 PM at Bandera United Methodist Church.\r\n \r\nIn lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association San Antonio Office, 10223 McAllister Fwy #100, San Antonio, TX 78216; The BUMC (Bandera United Methodist Church) Building Fund, Bandera, TX 78003. or any charity of choice. \r\n
