Nan Stover

March 2, 1930 — November 2, 2018

Friday, November 2nd, brought the sad news that Nan Stover, a long-time Kerrville resident, passed away. Her peaceful passing was made meaningful and comfortable by the loving company of her two daughters, Barbara and Ginny.\r\n \r\nNan Radcliffe Gertz Stover was born in Northampton, PA, on March 2, 1930, and lived in Palmerton, PA in her early years. She attended Dickinson College, Carlisle, PA, receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in 1951. While in college, she met and married her husband, Lewis E. Stover. Then after graduation both attended the University of Rochester where she earned a Master of Science degree in 1955. \r\n \r\nNan and Lew retired to Kerrville in 1991 where she has been an active volunteer in many areas. Her interests have included sponsoring a Navajo teen in her education, founding a scholarship in her late husband's name, volunteering for the girl scouts, donating blood monthly to the local blood bank, adopting rescued dogs and donating over ten thousand hours of her time to the Museum of Western Art in Kerrville, serving as Library Chairman for 15 years. She was an active supporter of Guide Dogs of Texas. Sewing was one of her passions which included clothing and quilting projects. She also sewed stuffed bears and outfits for hospitalized children.\r\n \r\nShe felt her greatest accomplishment was in raising three children with unconditional love, guidance and support. She was truly an extraordinary mother who reveled in their achievements and happiness. \r\n \r\nNan is survived by her children: her son, James L. Stover and his wife Elizabeth; her daughter, Barbara Dolce and her husband, Dennis; her daughter, Ginny, and her partner, Cindi Sassmanshausen and by her granddaughter, Sydney K. Stover. She was predeceased by her parents, Carl F.P. and Beatrice Earle Gertz, and her husband, Lewis Eugene Stover. She is also survived by her constant companion Monte, an ambassador canine from Guide Dogs of Texas, who provided Nan with unending love, attention and motivation to live a full life.\r\n \r\nThe family would like to acknowledge the support and kindness from her many acquaintances over the years. Her family is especially grateful to family friends Terry Veselka and Martha Matiuk who enriched her life immeasurably through years of friendship.\r\n \r\nThe family welcomes you to send condolences and messages at www.grimesfuneralchapels.com by selecting the "Send Condolences" link. Also, the family wishes to invite anyone who would like to pay their respects in person to attend a celebration of Nan's life on November 17, from 2 - 4 PM at the Museum of Western Art in Kerrville.\r\n\r\nFuneral arrangements are entrusted to Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville. \r\n
