July 18, 1931 — March 1, 2017

Mildred Ethel McBurnett Cook died on March 1, 2017, in Kerrville, Texas, after a long illness. She was 85. \r\n\r\nBorn on July 18, 1931 in Pearsall, TX, she was raised in Uvalde and Carrizo Springs and attended Texas Christian University and Texas A&I before her marriage to Edwin H. Cook, Sr., on December 27, 1950. In the course of her husband's career with Graybar Electric Company, she made homes and friends in San Antonio, Austin, Amarillo, Dallas, Cleveland, Houston, and St. Louis before retiring to Kerrville. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville, a lover of nature (especially the birds and wildflowers of Texas), and a devoted wife and mother whose own experience made her a longtime advocate for children with special needs. \r\n\r\nShe is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years; her son, Edwin H. Cook, Jr., M.D. (Melissa); two grandchildren, Lindsay and Andrew Cook; sisters Kay McBurnett McElroy (Jay) and Jan Evans Pickett (Forest); sister-in-law Helen Cook (the late Oscar Cook); and cherished nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Wade Cook; her parents, Kenneth Weldon McBurnett and Mildred Green McBurnett Evans; and stepfather Robert Campbell Evans. \r\n\r\nA graveside burial service was held on March 3, 2017, at Glendale Cemetery in Goliad, TX. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at First Presbyterian Church, 800 Jefferson Street, Kerrville, TX 78028.\r\n\r\nIn lieu of flowers, donations to the First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville, St. Louis Arc (1177 N. Warson Road, St. Louis, MO 63132), or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
