Mike Baumann

Michael Maxie Baumann, 67, of Kerrville, went home to his Lord on Sunday, April 9, 2017, in Kerrville, TX. The first baby boy born in Sid Peterson Hospital, he was also the first son of Maximillion Emil Baumann and Edna Behrens Baumann. He married the former Linda Cochrane Baumann on August 28, 1970, in Kerrville. Mike married Judith Rushing Baumann on August 8, 2009, in Ingram, TX.\r\n \r\nMike attended Kerrville schools and graduated from Tivy High School in 1967. He then graduated from Tarleton State University with a B.S. degree and The University of Missouri with a M.S. degree in Agricultural Economics.\r\n \r\nThe owner of Michael M. Baumann & Co., Mike was an active broker in farm and ranch sales as well as managing agricultural assets for institutional investors. In 1972, he was employed in the Agricultural Investment Division of Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Co. In 1978, Mike joined the ranch and farm real estate brokerage firm of Meek & Associates where he became a partner. In 1994, Michael M. Baumann & Co. was formed, specializing in agricultural real estate brokerage and asset management. Mike loved the outdoors and was an avid bird hunter and fly fisherman.\r\n \r\nMike was an active member of Notre Dame Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and Chairman of the Finance Committee. He was also Vice-Chairman of the Trust Committee for St. Peter Upon the Water, a center for Spiritual Direction & Formation in Ingram. Mike currently served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Peterson Regional Medical Center. He previously served on the Board of Directors and as President of Habitat for Humanity - Kerr County, and in many leadership roles for both Emmaus and ACTS retreats.\r\n \r\nOn a more personal note, Mike's "brotherly" association with two long-standing groups was an immensely important part of his life. He met with his 8 member Emmaus Reunion Group weekly since 1995. To "The Hackers", a 12 member group of "not-so-professional golfers", he was affectionately called "Mikey." Mike is the first of these two groups to enter his eternal rest; his passing is no small loss. Mike's mutual respect and admiration for "his farmers" in The Panhandle and South Texas is also notable.\r\n \r\nMike is preceded in death by his former wife Linda, his parents Edna and Maxie Baumann, and a brother Rodney Baumann.\r\n \r\nMike is survived by his wife Judy; children Brent (Crissy) Baumann, Sarah (Randall) Brower, Heath (Sarah) Rushing, and Brantley Rushing; sisters Nancy (Bob) Lester, and Susan (Leland) Koch; eleven grandchildren who adored their Opa; and several sisters and brothers-in-law, as well as nieces and nephews. Their affection for their Love/Dad/Mikey/Opa is immense and their loss immeasurable.\r\n \r\nFriends are invited to gather with family at Notre Dame Social Center on Wednesday, April 12th, from 5 to 7 p.m. to informally reminisce and celebrate Mike's life. He was an icon in his church, community, and profession.\r\n \r\nFuneral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 13th, at Notre Dame Catholic Church with Mike's beloved friend and priest, The Most Reverend Michael Boulette, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of San Antonio, as celebrant. A private family inurnment will take place at Garden of Memories, Kerrville.\r\n \r\nIn lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to The Peterson Health Foundation in memory of Mike Baumann. Mike so believed in the asset Peterson Regional Medical Center is to The Hill Country and dedicated much of his time and talents to support its mission to offer the very best quality health care.\r\n \r\nMike's family wishes to extend our heartfelt thanks to all who expertly and lovingly cared for him at Stone Oak Methodist Hospital, San Antonio, and Peterson Regional Medical Center Acute Rehab Unit, Kerrville. Mike endeared himself to them all and they to him. They fondly noted his infectious smile and upbeat personality.\r\n
