Michael Miles

December 1, 1950 — May 25, 2019

On Saturday, May 25, 2019, Michael Gary Miles passed away peacefully at his home in Harper, Texas at the age of 68. Mike was born on December 1, 1950 in Bethesda, Maryland (hence his proclivity toward the Washington Redskins) to Roy Michael Miles and Anna Marie Krager Miles. \r\nMike spent the majority of his life in Harper, where he has resided for the past 44 years. Here, he raised his family, developed a love for ranching and pursued his passion for flying, working at Mooney Aircraft in Kerrville for over 41 years. Mike, or "Mikey" as his friends like to call him, was a very accomplished test pilot at Mooney for most of his years there, and personally flew and licensed over 1700 planes in his career. Mike officially retired in September 2017, but continued to fly and license planes even after his retirement. \r\n\r\nMike loved to fly high and fast and he also loved his NASCAR. He rarely missed watching a Sunday race, and if he couldn't watch it live, you can bet he recorded it to watch later. He was a great friend to many, loved and admired, described by friends as the kindest of kind souls, genuine, humble, fearless, witty and someone you could always count on. Mike was a proud father and grandfather and had a deep love and commitment to his family. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and was a very patient, thoughtful and caring "Grampa" who will be sorely missed.\r\n\r\nMike was preceded in death by both of his parents. He is survived by his brother, Richard Miles; his sister, Deborah Miles; his brother, Kenneth Miles and wife Karen; his son, Jesse Miles and wife Shelley and their children Kelsey, Kaylee and Kendi; his daughter, Heather Newton and husband Robert and their children Taylor, Garrett and Devin; his son, Graham Miles and wife Lindsay and their children Colton and Asher, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of close friends.\r\n\r\nA memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 8 at 10am at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville, with a reception afterwards at Freedom Hall/Lazy Dog Sports Bar. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his name "CAPT MIKEY" to the Lonestar Flight Museum - Aviation Learning Center, 11551 Aerospace Ave, Houston, TX 77034, Email: donate@lonestarflight.org or to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org.\r\n
