Michael Monroe Bond died Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at his home in San Francisco at the age of 54. Michael was born in Germany on March 10, 1963, and adopted by the Rev. and Mrs. Marvin M. Bond (Red and Elene).\r\n \r\nThe Bonds lived in Wharton, Texas and then moved to Port Neches, Texas. When Michael was four years old, the family moved to Kerrville, Texas. Michael grew up attending public schools in Kerrville and graduated from Tivy High School in 1981. Michael attended the University of Texas at Austin and Schreiner University in Kerrville. He graduated from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio.\r\n \r\nAfter the death of Michael's partner, Stephen Stanley, in November 1988, Michael moved to San Francisco and worked for several firms. In 2012 he decided on a career change and graduated from California Culinary Institute in 2013. Before Michael could embark on his new vocation, he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. A remission was achieved in the spring of 2014, and Michael was able to make several trips with family. A relapse in 2015 marked a long course of treatment that seemed to be proving successful.\r\n \r\nMichael was preceded in death by his mother, Elene Dye Bond in 1985; his sister, Barbara Lynn Gibson in 1996; and his father, the Rev. Marvin M. (Red) Bond in 2013. His Cline grandparents also preceded him in death: Margaret Farrar Cline in 1997 and William Aldridge (Billy) Cline in 2012.\r\n \r\nSurvivors include Michael's step-mother, Bunny Bond; birth father, Robert Cline, Sr.; half-sister, Sarah Wilkins and her husband, Burke; half-brother, Robert Cline, Jr. and his wife, Melissa; stepbrothers, Ian Nichols and Lorenzo Nichols Sands and his husband, Bobby Dale Sands; Barbara's daughter, Beth Shadron and her husband, John; sister, Carolyn Bond Kaliski, and her husband, Mike and their children, Bill Weirich, Sarah Kaliski, David Kaliski and his wife, Debora, and Katherine Kaliski; sister, Mary Bond Wilson, and her husband, Jeff and their children, Hannah Tougas and her husband, Ben, Jessica Wilson, and Zachary Wilson and his fiancé, Maddie Kautz. Michael is also survived by nieces and nephews: Emily and Jack Wilkins; Ryan and Katie Waples, Kallie and Courtney Tougas; Ailey and Avalyn Wilson; Joshua Shadron; Sadie Kaliski; and Max Kaliski. In addition, several Bond cousins survive Michael: Stephen and Lee Bond, Debbie and Stanley Thomas, and David and Jean Bond. Other survivors include two aunts and one uncle: Peggy Cline Wood, Carolyn Cline Northington, and Bill Cline and his wife, Kathleen as well as Cline cousins.\r\n \r\nA service for Michael will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Kerrville. \r\n \r\nThe family is grateful for the care provided Michael at UCSF Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplant Clinic, especially Dr. Lawrence Kaplan, MD, hematologist at UCSF.\r\n \r\nThe family requests that any donations in Michael's memory be made to a charity of one's choice.\r\n
