Maurice Haufler, age 85, of Kerrville, passed away in a local hospital on Friday, August 4, 2017. He was born on August 2, 1932 in Waring, Texas to Erhard and Esther Haufler. He married his high school sweetheart, Mabel Faltin Haufler, on July 30, 1953 in Comfort. They had recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary.\r\n \r\nMaurice attended the Waring schools for eight years and then graduated from Comfort High School in 1949. He was the quarterback for Comfort's first 6-man football team. He attended Texas Lutheran University and graduated from the University of North Texas with a degree in biology. He was in the U.S. Navy stationed in San Diego where he worked at the Naval Hospital and at Coronado. He worked at the USDA in Kerrville for over thirty years. He and Dick Gingrich coached Little League and Pony League teams for many years. He was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church where he was a lay reader and was on the church vestry. He loved his family, playing golf, watching sports, and being outdoors. He was a kind and witty gentleman. His family will miss his sense of humor.\r\n \r\nMaurice was preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia Haufler Kohls; his parents; and his brother, Harold Haufler.\r\n \r\nMaurice is survived by his wife, Mabel; his son, Mark and his daughter, Susan Martin (Mike); two brothers-in-law, Eugene Faltin and August Faltin; granddaughters, Megan Haufler and Lauren Haufler (Hiren); Maria Kohls and Melissa Chatelain; Lisa Worthing (Taylor); and great-grandchildren, Anaya, Ezra, and Sadie.\r\n \r\nFuneral services will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Kerrville with the Reverend Mike Wheeler officiating. A private family burial will take place later Wednesday in Comfort.\r\n \r\nIn lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Comfort Volunteer Fire Department, Waring Volunteer Fire Department, or a charity of your choice.\r\n
